What is Benzydamine Hydrochloride 0.15% Oral Spray?

 

Benzydamine 0.15% Oral Spray is an antiseptic spray used to relieve pain, soreness, or discomfort in the mouth or throat. It is a generic version of Difflam Spray and contains the same active ingredient, benzydamine, which helps to numb the affected area and reduce inflammation. 

 

The active ingredient, benzydamine hydrochloride, is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug or NSAIDS.

 

What is Benzydamine Spray used for? 

 

Benzydamine Spray can be used to treat:

  • mouth ulcers,
  • sore throat,
  • sore tongue or gums,
  • and discomfort from teeth or dentures.

 

Warnings and Precautions

 

  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Read the package leaflet before use.
  • Do not use it if the expiration date printed on the carton has passed.

 

Do not use:

  • If you are allergic to any of the ingredients this spray contains.

 

Speak to your GP or Pharmacist before use if:

  • You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding
  • if you have an underlying medical condition, are taking any other medication or complementary therapy, or if symptoms persist

 

Note:

  • Avoid contact with the eyes
  • Always keep the bottle upright during use and when stored

 

Ingredients

 

Active ingredient: Benzydamine Hydrochloride.

This medicine contains glycerol, which may cause headache, stomach upset and diarrhoea.

This medicine contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate, which may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed). Each puff (0.18ml) of the spray delivers 0.18 milligrams of methyl parahydroxybenzoate and 14.58 milligrams of ethanol 96%.

 

How do I use Benzydamine 0.15% Oral Spray?

 

Dosage:

 

Spray directly onto the affected area of the mouth or throat as follows;

 

Adults, adolescents and the elderly:

4-8 puffs every 1.5-3 hours

 

Children 6-12 years: 

4 puffs to the sore area every 1.5-3 hours

 

Children less than 6 years:

Spray 1 puff for each 4kg of body weight up to a maximum of 4 sprays. 1.5-3 hours 

 

Avoid contact with the eyes.

 

If your condition does not get better, speak to a pharmacist or doctor. 

 

Once opened use within 6 months. 

 

Do not store above 25 °C.

 

Keep out of sight and reach of children. 

 

How to use Benzydamine Hydrochloride Oromucosal Spray

  1. Hold the bottle in an upright position.
  2. You need to prime the spray the first time you use it (max. 5 sprays. Point the spray-tube away from your face. Press down firmly until a fine spray appears from the end of the spray-tube. 
  3. Aim the spray-tube at the affected area and press down. One press release, one actuation. 
  4. After spraying the desired number of actuations, wipe the end of the spray-tube becoming blocked.
  5. Do not push anything into the end of the spray-tube if it becomes blocked. Return the spray to your pharmacist. 

 

What are the side effects of Benzydamine Hydrochloride?

 

Common side effects of Benzydamine include: 

  • Burning/stinging sensation.
  • Nausea.
  • Vomiting.

 

Other side effects of benzydamine include:

 

If any of these effects persist or worsen, contact your GP promptly.

 

If you have any concerns or queries regarding any side effects this medicine has caused or could cause you can call your GP or our pharmacist.

 

If you have any severe side effects stop use immediately and seek medical assistance as soon as possible.
