Is SimplyMeds Online a registered pharmacy?
Yes. We are registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and all medications are dispensed under the supervision of a UK-registered pharmacist.
As a fully registered UK online pharmacy, we only source medicines from licensed UK suppliers, so you get the same trusted quality at competitive prices. Please note, we can only provide human medicines for animals if they’ve been prescribed under the cascade by a vet. We’re not able to supply standard veterinary medicines or process prescriptions that include both animal and human medication.
The prescription must meet UK veterinary regulations. It should clearly include:
• Your full name and address
• Your pet’s name, species, and identification details
• The name, strength, form, and quantity of the medication
• The human medication has been prescribed under the cascade.
• Clear dosage instructions
• The prescribing vet’s name, address, and signature
• The date the prescription was written
• If applicable, the number of repeats authorised
As soon as the physical copy of your prescription has been approved, your pet’s medication will be dispensed and dispatched via your selected delivery method (typically 1-3 working days for standard delivery). We aim to process prescriptions as efficiently as possible. Most orders are dispatched the same day we receive a valid prescription.
Your vet may charge a small fee to write a private prescription. This is a separate cost from the price of the medication and is set by your vet practice.
No. We can only accept prescriptions written by vets registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) in the UK.
The prescribing cascade is a legal framework that allows vets to prescribe unlicensed medicines (often human medications) when there’s no suitable veterinary alternative. If your vet follows this route, they must explain their clinical reasoning on the prescription.
Most prescriptions are valid for 6 months, but this can vary depending on the medication, especially controlled drugs, which are only valid for 28 days. Always check with your vet if you’re unsure.
Only if your vet has authorised repeats — this will be clearly stated on the prescription. We’ll keep track of how many repeats are left and let you know when a new prescription is needed.
We recommend visiting your local veterinary practice, where a qualified vet will be able to assess your pet’s health. If they decide that prescription medication is needed, they’ll issue a written prescription. You can then securely upload this to your SimplyMeds Online account when ordering your pet’s medication.
