What are Sofradex Eye/Ear Drops?

Sofradex contains three active ingredients. Two are an antibiotic and the third is a corticosteroid. These eye drops are used to treat infection and inflammation in the eye(s) or ear(s).
 

How do the active ingredients Framycetin Sulphate, Gramicidin and Dexamethasone work?

Framycetin and Gramicidin are both antibiotics and work to kill germs and infections in the eye or ear.

Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid and works to reduce inflammation in the eye or ear. It also helps with itching and weeping.

Emergency supplies of Sofradex:

Sofradex is a prescription-only medicine and an Emergency Supply can only be issued if you are currently being prescribed this medication by your GP.  You will need to fill out a questionnaire, which is then reviewed to make sure Sofradex is a suitable treatment for you. You will also be required to upload proof that you have had this item before. If your order is approved, your Sofradex can be sent directly to you.

Warnings and Precautions

Always take this medication exactly as directed by your GP.

Keep out of sight and reach of children.

If you are taking or using any new medications even over-the-counter medicines whilst using Sofradex you should make your GP aware to prevent interactions.
 

Ingredients:

Active ingredients:  Framycetin sulphate, gramicidin and dexamethasone.

How do I use Sofradex Eye/Ear Drops?
 

Sofradex must be used exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are unsure contact your GP.
 

Recommended starting dose is usually:

For EYES: 

ONE or TWO drops into the affected eye(s) up to six times a day.

For EARS: 

TWO or THREE drops into the affected ear(s) three to four times a day.

Recommended for seven days use if required any longer it should be under advice from your GP.

What are the side effects of Sofradex Eye/Ear Drops?

Common side effects if used in the ear:

• Rash
• Itching around the ear canal

Common side effects if used in the eye:

• Corneal and scleral thinning
• Migraine

Any concerns or queries regarding any side effects this medicine has caused or could cause you can call your GP or our pharmacist.

If you have any severe side effects seek medical assistance as soon as possible.
