What are Betoptic Eye Drops?

Betoptic contains the active ingredient Betaxolol which belongs to a class of medications called beta-blockers. These eye drops are used to decrease pressure in the eyes of patients with glaucoma and ocular hypertension. 

How does the active ingredient Betaxolol work?
 

Betaxolol works by blocking beta receptors in the eye, which reduces the amount of aqueous humour that is produced.

Emergency supply of Betoptic:

Betoptic is a prescription only medicine and an Emergency Supply can only be issued if you are currently being prescribed this medication by your GP.  You will need to fill out a questionnaire, which is then reviewed to make sureBetoptic is a suitable treatment for you. You will also need to upload proof that you have used this item before. If your order is approved, your Betoptic can be sent directly to you.

Warnings and Precautions

Always take this medication exactly as directed by your GP.

Keep out of sight and Reach of children.

If you are taking or using any new medications even over the counter medicines, whilst using Betoptic you should make your GP aware to prevent interactions.

How do I use Betoptic Eye Drops?

Betoptic must be used exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are unsure, contact your GP.

The recommended starting dose is usually:

ONE drop in the affected eye or eyes twice a day

What are the side effects of Betoptic Eye Drops?

Possible side effects

Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

• extreme tiredness
• difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
• unusual dreams
• heartburn
• nausea
• diarrhea
• joint pain
• decreased sexual ability in men
• cold hands and feet
• numbness, burning, or tingling in the arms, legs, hands, or feet
• rash

Serious side effects

If you experience any of these symptoms, call your doctor immediately:

• difficulty breathing, especially during activity or when lying down
• swelling of the arms, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
• unexplained weight gain
• fast, slow, pounding, or irregular heartbeat
• chest pain

If you have any severe side effects, seek medical assistance as soon as possible.
