What is Hirudoid Cream?

Hirudoid Cream is a cream to help reduce the inflammation of veins (thrombophlebitis) and soothing relief of bruising and haematoma (deep bruising).

What is the active ingredient in Hirudoid and how does it work?

The active ingredient in this cream is heparinoid, which is an anticoagulant that thins the blood, preventing blood clots.

Who is most at risk of having inflammation of veins?

• Smokers

• Overweight

• People taking contraception or HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy)

• Pregnant patients

• Cancer patients  

• Patients who have had a blood clot before

Warnings and Precautions

• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding it is recommended you speak to your GP or pharmacist before the use of this cream.

• Not suitable for children under 5 years of age

• Fire Hazard! Do not smoke or go near naked flames.

Do not use if:

• You are allergic to any of the ingredients this cream contains

• You have broken skin, or on large areas of skin

• You have inflammation on the mouth, eyes, genitals, or back passage

Ingredients

Active ingredient: Heparinoid 0.3% w/w in a white vanishing cream base.

Other ingredients: Anhydrous eucerine, E216, E218, emulsifying cetostearyl alcohol, glycerol, isopropyl alcohol, potassium hydroxide, stearic acid, thymol, purified water

How do I use Hirudoid Cream?

Directions:

Adults, elderly and children over 5 years: Gently Massage 2-6 inches of cream into the affected area up to 4 times a day.

NOT suitable for children under 5 years old.

What are the side effects of Hirudoid Cream?

Possible side effects:

• Redness of skin.

• Burning sensation.

• Skin rash.
