What is Hirudoid Gel?

Hirudoid Gel is a Gel to help reduce the inflammation of veins (thrombophlebitis) and soothes relief of bruising and hematoma (deep bruising).

What is the active ingredient in Hirudoid and how does it work?

The active ingredient in this Gel is heparinoid, which is an anticoagulant that thins the blood, preventing blood clots.

Who is most at risk of having an inflammation of the veins?

• Smokers
• Overweight
• People taking contraception or HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy)
• Pregnant patients
• Cancer patients  
• Patients who have had a blood clot before

Warnings and Precautions

• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding it is recommended you speak to your GP or pharmacist before the use of this gel.
• Not suitable for children under 5 years of age
• Fire Hazard! Do not smoke or go near naked flames.

Do not use if:

• You are allergic to any of the ingredients this gel contains
• You have broken skin, or large areas of skin
• You have inflammation in the mouth, eyes, genitals, or back passage

Ingredients

Active ingredient: Heparinoid 0.3% w/w in a colorless gel base.

Isopropyl alcohol, Polyacrylic acid, Propylene glycol (E1520), Purified water, Sodium hydroxide.

How do I use Hirudoid Gel?

Directions:

Adults, elderly, and children over 5 years: Gently Massage 2-6 inches of gel into the affected area up to 4 times a day.

NOT suitable for children under 5 years old.

What are the side effects of Hirudoid Gel?

Possible side effects:

• Redness of the skin.
• Burning sensation.
• Skin rash.
