Wegovy Pill is the new oral semaglutide version of the Wegovy Injection from Novo Nordisk, containing the same active ingredient, semaglutide, for weight management for patients with a BMI over 30 (or over 27 with weight-related conditions).
Wegovy Pill is the only oral GLP-1 tablet approved to be prescribed in the UK by the MHRA for weight management.
It’s a once-daily tablet taken first thing in the morning with a small amount of water (under 120ml), half an hour before any other medication, food or drink.
Wegovy Pill is taken orally without the need for weekly injections.
It’s an oral GLP-1 treatment, using semaglutide (the same semaglutide found in Wegovy Injections).
Wegovy Pill uses SNAC technology, which helps protect semaglutide and enables it to be absorbed through the stomach lining. This allows semaglutide to be taken as a tablet rather than an injection.
Taking Wegovy Pill is simple. Take one tablet first thing in the morning with a sip of water, then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other medications.
Unlike the Wegovy Injection, the Wegovy Pill is taken daily with no needles or injections required. It’s travel-friendly and doesn’t require any refrigeration or special storage.
Wegovy Pill contains oral semaglutide, the same active ingredient used in Wegovy injections.
Each Wegovy Pill strength in the UK is supplied in 3 blister packs, as a pack of 30 tablets for 30 days of treatment.
There is an initial launch of 1.5mg and 4mg tablets, followed shortly after by 9mg and 25mg tablets.
1.5mg, 4mg and 9mg tablets are round and have the Novo logo printed on one side and the strength on the other. 25mg tablets are a diamond shape and slightly larger (as they contain more active ingredients), and also have the strength and Novo logo printed on them.
To help Wegovy® work as intended, follow the same simple routine every day.
Wake up and take your tablet with water.
Wait 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other oral medicines.
The Wegovy Pill should be taken once a day, and once a day only, on an empty stomach.
Wegovy Pill should be taken first thing in the morning, with a maximum of 120ml of water.
Tablets should only be swallowed whole, not broken, chewed or crushed.
You should wait at least 30 minutes before taking any other medication, eating or drinking so the tablet can be absorbed into the stomach wall.
Following the instructions on how to take Wegovy Pill is essential for its effectiveness.
Both Wegovy Pill and Wegovy injections contain semaglutide. The most appropriate option depends on individual circumstances and clinical suitability.

As with Wegovy Injections, there are some side effects to consider with the use of Semaglutide.
Main side effects with Wegovy Pill (Semaglutide) are similar to the Wegovy Injectables.
Nausea, constipation, vomiting, and diarrhoea are all common side effects. Wegovy Pill has an additional common side effect of Dyspepsia (Indigestion).
Although a side effect may be listed as common, it does not mean every person will experience the same side effects.
Normally, semaglutide would be broken down in the stomach before the body could absorb it. Wegovy Pill contains a special ingredient called SNAC, which helps protect the semaglutide and allows it to be absorbed through the stomach lining. This is what makes it possible to take semaglutide as a tablet rather than an injection.
Food, drink and other oral medicines can affect how well Wegovy Pill is absorbed, which is why it should be taken exactly as directed.
If you take other medications, taking them at the same time or too close to your Wegovy Pill could prevent absorption of both or some of the medications. This is why you should wait at least 30 minutes before taking any other oral medication.
Following instructions carefully is key to your treatment.
