What are Buccastem M Buccal Tablets?

Buccastem M Buccal tablets are an anti-sickness medicine that can help to ease feelings of nausea or vomiting associated with a migraine. When these are taken alongside a painkiller, Buccastem M tablets can lessen the intensity of your migraine.

Migraines:

A migraine is a moderate to severe headache that is characterised by throbbing pain on one side of the head. Along with the pain you generally suffer from nausea and sensitivity to light and sound.

What is the active ingredient in Buccastem M tablets and how does it work?

The active ingredient in Buccastem M tablets is prochlorperazine maleate which is an effective treatment for nausea and vomiting. These tablets easily dissolve along the gum line, meaning the active ingredient will enter your blood stream quicker.

Warnings and Precautions

• Keep out of sight and reach of children

• Not suitable for anyone under 18 years of age

Do not use if:

• You are allergic to any of the ingredients this product contains

• You are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are breast-feeding

• You have problems with your liver and/or blood problems

• You suffer from epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, or Glaucoma

• You have problems with your prostate gland

Speak to your GP before using if:

• You are elderly

• You have risk factors for a blood clot or stroke, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, diabetes, or smoking OR your family have a history of blood clots, as medicines like these have been associated with the formation of blood clots

• You have a condition called myasthenia gravis, which causes muscle weakness

• You have AIDs

• You are taking any other medication or you are under medical supervision

Speak to your GP before taking if you take:

• Any sedatives or tranquilisers (sleep aids)

• Any antihypertensive medicines (treats high blood pressure) (e.g atenolol, propranolol, or clonidine)

• Any anticholinergic medicines

• Any anticonvulsant medicines (prevents or treat fits)

• Lithium 

• Desferrioxamine

• Any oral anticoagulants (prevent blood clots)

• Levodopa

Ingredients

Active ingredient prochlorperazine maleate.

Other ingredients are compressible sugar (sucrose), povidone K30, xanthan gum, locust bean gum, talc, magnesium stearate, and riboflavin sodium phosphate.

How do I take Buccastem M Buccal Tablets?

Dosage:

For adults aged 18 and over:

ONE or TWO tablets TWICE a day for a maximum of 2 days

Place the tablet high up along the top gum under the upper lip, until dissolved.
Do not chew or swallow the tablet.

What are the side effects of Buccastem M Buccal tablets?

The side effects listed below require urgent medical attention if you suffer from them:

• Rash and swelling of the face, tongue, or throat

• Allergic reaction

• A high temperature, pale complexion, muscle stiffness, and changes in levels of alertness

• Convulsions

• Signs of infection, such as shivering, headache, sweating, high temperature, flushing, a sore throat or mouth, and swollen glands

• Blood clots in the veins especially in the legs

• Symptoms of decreased sodium concentration in the blood
