Colgate Duraphat 5000 Toothpaste contains 5000ppm of fluoride, which is approximately four times as much as that found in the better toothpastes available in the dental section at your local supermarket.

Duraphat is a high-fluoride, prescription-only treatment that provides enhanced protection against the formation of dental plaque. This means better protection and lower exposure of enamel to plaque acid. As well as this, Duraphat can actually help to reverse enamel demineralisation and repair any parts of the enamel that are partly damaged.

Benefits of using Duraphat

Duraphat 5000 toothpaste can be used by adults and children over 16 years old with active signs of enamel demineralisation. It should also be considered by patients with:

• Active tooth decay or a history of tooth decay
• Exposed root surfaces
• High sugar diets
• Orthodontic appliances
• Dry mouth

Using Duraphat to brush twice a day (minimum), eating less sugar, and using brushes in-between the teeth or floss will all help to reduce plaque and plaque acid-related damage to tooth enamel.

Duraphat Toothpaste is for use by persons aged 16 years and above.

• Use Duraphat Toothpaste 3 times a day for brushing your teeth
• apply a 2cm ribbon onto your toothbrush for each brushing (2cm provides between 3mg and 5mg of fluoride).
• brush your teeth after each meal. vertically, from the gum to the tip of the tooth.
• spit out excess foam and do not swallow.

Like all medicines, Duraphat Toothpaste can cause side effects, although not everybody gets it.

Allergic (hypersensitivity) reactions can occur e.g. rash, itching swelling, and redness. Burning oral sensation has also been reported.
