A little more about Colgate Duraphat 2800 Toothpaste
Colgate Duraphat 2800 Toothpaste: Things you need to know

Colgate Duraphat 2800 Toothpaste is a prescription-only treatment that delivers better cavity protection than conventional toothpaste.

It contains 2800ppm of fluoride which is approximately double the amount of fluoride in the strongest normal toothpastes. A high fluoride toothpaste prevents the formation of dental plaque that can make harmful acid that causes decay, but it can also help to repair damaged enamel before it's too late. In the early stages of enamel demineralisation, use of Duraphat can help re-mineralise the eroded area.

What is Duraphat 2800 used for?

Duraphat 2800 toothpaste is a prescription-strength treatment used to protect against dental cavities and tooth decay. It delivers a highly concentrated dose of fluoride to strengthen teeth. It is often used when teeth are particularly vulnerable to decay or breakage.

Who should use high fluoride toothpaste?

This prescription fluoride toothpaste is typically recommended for adults and adolescents aged 16 and over who have an increased risk of dental caries. This includes individuals with a history of frequent cavities, exposed root surfaces, dry mouth, or those wearing certain orthodontic appliances that make teeth harder to clean.

What's the difference between Colgate Duraphat 2800ppm and Duraphat 5000 ppm?

The primary difference between Colgate Duraphat 2800ppm and Duraphat 5000ppm is the concentration of fluoride. Duraphat 2800 contains 2800 parts per million (ppm) of fluoride, which is roughly double the strength of standard over-the-counter toothpaste. Duraphat 5000 is an even stronger formula containing 5000 ppm of fluoride, which dentists typically reserve for patients at a much higher or more severe risk of advanced tooth decay.

Does Duraphat 2800 help with enamel erosion?

Duraphat 2800 works as an effective enamel erosion toothpaste. The elevated fluoride level works by speeding up the remineralisation of your teeth, which hardens softened enamel and helps reverse the early stages of acid erosion. This can be caused by dietary acid or plaque bacteria.

Has Colgate Duraphat 2800ppm Changed in Colour & Consistency?

A number of customers have been in contact regarding the colour and consistency of the Colgate Duraphat 2800ppm. The Colgate-Palmolive team confirmed there were some changes in May 2024 with the following information:

"Duraphat 2800 Fluoride Toothpaste PL 00049/0039 was subject to a variation which was granted on 17th May 2024. This variation is related to the removal of titanium dioxide from the formulation with the consequent change in the product appearance. As the only colourant (white) within the product, the resulting reformulated product has a more gel like appearance. There have been no other changes or any change to the efficacy of the product."

Who can benefit from using Colgate Duraphat?

Duraphat 2800 toothpaste is suitable for adults and children over 16 years of age who may be at risk of tooth decay. It can also help in patients with:

- Active tooth decay or a history of tooth decay
- Exposed root surfaces
- High sugar diets
- Orthodontic appliances
- Dry mouth

Also available:

Colgate Duraphat 5000 Toothpaste

Brushing twice a day with Duraphat, reducing dietary sugar intake, and using interdental brushes or floss will all help to reduce plaque and prevent tooth decay.

Duraphat Toothpaste is for use by persons aged 16 years and above.

  • Use Duraphat Toothpaste 2 times a day for brushing your teeth
  • Apply a 2cm ribbon onto your toothbrush for each brushing (2cm provides between 3mg and 5mg of fluoride).
  • Brush your teeth after each meal. vertically, from the gum to the tip of the tooth.
  • spit out excess foam and do not swallow

Can I use Duraphat 2800 daily?

Colgate Duraphat 2800 is designed to replace your regular daily toothpaste. You should brush thoroughly with it twice a day, ideally morning and evening after meals, using a 2 cm ribbon of paste each time. For the best results after brushing, spit out the extra foam but don’t rinse or use mouthwash. This allows the fluoride to keep working on your teeth.
