Jet Lag

Jet lag is a Circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorder. This is when your sleep pattern is disturbed after a long flight. Your body clock will usually improve within a few days, as it adjusts to the new time zone.

Symptoms of Jet Lag: 

  • Trouble sleeping at bedtime and waking in the morning
  • Tiredness and exhaustion
  • Poor sleep quality
  • Difficulty staying awake during the day 
  • Concentration and memory problems 
  • Lack of motivation

Less common symptoms:

  • Indegestion
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Constipation 
  • Change in appetite 
  • Mild anxiety

What is Melatonin (Circadin tablets)

Melatonin is a natural hormone that is produced by the pineal gland in the brain and is only released at night. It is controlled by the 24 hour circadin clock, and its release tells the brain it is night-time and time to sleep.

Circadin tablets are a synthetic higher dose of melatonin. This can help you shift to a new time zone faster. 

This is not a sleeping pill and will not help sleep once your jet lag has gone.

IMPORTANT WARNINGS

  • This is a short term treatment for jet lag
  • DO NOT use melatonin if are pregnant, breastfeeding, have epilipsy or migraines, taking warfarin or if you have a personal or family history of psychiatric disorders.
  • AVOID alcohol and tasks that require high alertness like driving or using machinery, within 8 hours of taking Circadin
  • DO NOT give melatonin to children
