Jardiance tablets come in two strengths: 10mg and 25mg

What are Jardiance Tablets?

Jardiance contains the active ingredient Empagliflozin. This is a treatment for type 2 diabetes used with proper diet and exercise to treat high blood sugar levels.

How does Empagliflozin work as a treatment for Type 2 Diabetes?
 

Empagliflozin works by blocking the reabsorption of blood sugar (Glucose) by the kidneys, increasing glucose excretion in urine, and lowering blood sugar levels.
 

What is Diabetes?
 

Diabetes mellitus refers to a group of diseases that affect how your body uses blood sugar (glucose). 

The cause of diabetes varies by type. However, no matter what type of diabetes you have, it can lead to excess sugar in your blood and to much sugar in your blood can lead to serious health problems.

Chronic diabetes: type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes.

Potentially reversible diabetes: Prediabetes and gestational diabetes.

Gestational diabetes: occurs during pregnancy but may resolve after the baby is delivered.

Emergency supplys of Jardiance:
 

Jardiance is a prescription only medicine and an Emergency Supply can only be issued if you are currently being prescribed this medication by your GP for Diabetes.  You will need to fill out a questionnaire, which is then reviewed to make sure Jardiance is a suitable treatment for you. You will also need to upload proof that you have used this item before. If your order is approved, your Jardiance can be sent directly to you.

Warnings and Precautions

Always take this medication exactly as directed by your GP.

Keep out of sight and Reach of children.

If you are taking any new medications even over the counter medicines whilst taking Jardiance you should make your GP aware to prevent interactions.

How do I take Jardiance Tablets?

Jardiance must be used exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are unsure contact your GP.

Recommended starting dose is usually:

ONE tablet Daily

Your doctor may adjust your dose. 

What are the side effects of Jardiance Tablets?
 

Common side effects:

• Frequent urge to urinate, or little to no urinating

• Increased chance of urinary tract infections

• Signs of a genital infection – such as pain, itching or a rash

• Hypoglycemia – if taken with a medication that reduces blood glucose levels

• Increased cholesterol

• Feeling tired or light-headed
