What are Janumet Tablets?

Janumet contains the active ingredients Sitagliptin and Metformin. This is a treatment for type 2 diabetes used with proper diet and exercise to treat high blood sugar levels.

How does Sitagliptin and Metformin work as a treatment for Type 2 Diabetes?
 

Sitagliptin works by increasing the levels of incretins that help control blood sugar by increasing the release of insulin, especially after food. Incretins also decrease the amount of sugar produced by the liver.

Metformin works by reducing the absorption of sugar from the stomach, reducing the release of stored sugar from the liver, and helps your body use sugar better. This lowers the amount of glucose in the blood.

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes mellitus refers to a group of diseases that affect how your body uses blood sugar (glucose). 

The cause of diabetes varies by type. However, no matter what type of diabetes you have, it can lead to excess sugar in your blood and to much sugar in your blood can lead to serious health problems.

Chronic diabetes: type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes.

Potentially reversible diabetes: Prediabetes and gestational diabetes.

Gestational diabetes: occurs during pregnancy but may resolve after the baby is delivered.

Janumet is a prescription only medicine and an Emergency Supply can only be issued if you are currently being prescribed this medication by your GP for Diabetes.  You will need to fill out a questionnaire, which is then reviewed to make sure Janumet is a suitable treatment for you. You will also need to upload proof that you have used this item before. If your order is approved, your Janumet can be sent directly to you.

If you are taking any new medications even over the counter medicines whilst taking Janumet you should make your GP aware to prevent interactions.

Janumet must be used exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are unsure contact your GP.
 

Recommended starting dose is usually:

ONE in the morning and another in the evening.

Your doctor may adjust your dose. 

What are the side effects of Janumet 50/100mg Tablets?

Common side effects:

• Diarrhea or flatulence

• Nausea or vomiting

• Abdominal discomfort , upset stomach, or indigestion

• Vitamin B12 deficiency

• Lack of energy or weakness

• Headache

• Joint pain

• Upper respiratory tract infection

• Rash

• Loss of appetite

• Metallic taste

• Ovulation induction
