What are Byetta Prefilled Pens?

Byetta PFP's contain the active ingredient Exenatide. This is a treatment for type 2 diabetes used with proper diet and exercise to treat high blood sugar levels.

How does Exenatide work as a treatment for Type 2 Diabetes?

Exenatide works by increasing the release of insulin from the pancreas, reducing the action of glucagon and slowing the absorption of glucose from the gut. This then lowers blood sugar levels and reduces appetite.

What is Diabetes?
 

Diabetes mellitus refers to a group of diseases that affect how your body uses blood sugar (glucose). 

The cause of diabetes varies by type. However, no matter what type of diabetes you have, it can lead to excess sugar in your blood and to much sugar in your blood can lead to serious health problems.

Chronic diabetes: type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes.

Potentially reversible diabetes: Prediabetes and gestational diabetes.

Gestational diabetes: occurs during pregnancy but may resolve after the baby is delivered.
 

Emergency supplys of Byetta:

Byetta is a prescription only medicine and an Emergency Supply can only be issued if you are currently being prescribed this medication by your GP for Diabetes.  You will need to fill out a questionnaire, which is then reviewed to make sure Byetta is a suitable treatment for you. You will also need to upload proof that you have used this item before. If your order is approved, your Byetta can be sent directly to you.

Warnings and Precautions

Always take this medication exactly as directed by your GP.

Keep out of sight and Reach of children.

If you are taking any new medications even over the counter medicines whilst taking Byetta you should make your GP aware to prevent interactions.

Byetta must be used exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are unsure contact your GP.
 

The dose is based on your blood sugar and must be determined by your doctor.

What are the side effects of Byetta Prefilled Pen?

• Nausea or Vomiting

• Diarrhea

• Constipation

• Dizziness and lightheadedness

• Heartburn

• Headache

• Unusual tiredness or weakness

• Excessive sweating

• Stomach pain in the upper left or middle part

• Severe skin rash and hives

• Difficulty in breathing

• Difficulty in swallowing

• Injection site redness, bruising, or sores

• Swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet

• Change in the frequency of urination

• Decreased appetite

• Drowsiness
