What is Anbesol Teething Gel?

 

Anbesol Teething Gel is a local anaesthetic gel that numbs the pain caused by teething, ulcers, and other damage to the mouth. It also eliminates bacteria in the mouth, helping to prevent infection and further irritation.

 

Anbesol teething gel is sugar free and has short-term use of no more than 7 days, where non-medicinal methods have not provided relief. For children from age 5 months.

What are the active ingredients in Anbesol Teething Gel and how do they work?

 

Lidocaine hydrochloride is a local anaesthetic it works wherever you apply it to ease pain in that area. 

 

Chlorocresol and Cetylpyridinium chloride: This helps to kill bacteria in the mouth that could cause further irritation or infection.

 

Warnings and Precautions

 

Not suitable for young children under 5 months of age.

 

KEEP OUT OF THE SIGHT AND REACH OF CHILDREN.

 

Do not use if:

 

  • You are allergic to any of the ingredients this product contains or if you have had an allergic reaction to it previously.
  • You have porphyria, which is a disease that causes stomach pain, constipation, changes in the colour of your urine, skin rashes, and behaviour disturbances. 

 

Speak to your GP or our pharmacist before use if:

 

  • You have open wounds or damaged areas in your mouth
  • Your symptoms continue for more than 7 days or come back frequently
  • You suffer from alcoholism or have liver disease, epilepsy, or another condition which places you in a group of high-risk patients. 

 

If you take any of the medicines or types of medicines you will also first need to speak to your GP or our pharmacist before use:

 

  • Other anaesthetics or other medications which are similar to lidocaine
  • Erythromycin
  • Itraconazole
  • Antiarrhythmic drugs
  • Cimetidine
  • Beta-blockers
  • Calcium chloride
  • Codeine phosphate
  • Diamorphine hydrochloride
  • Paveretum
  • Quinine hydrochloride
  • Methylcellulose
  • Non-ionic surfactants

 

Ingredients

 

Lidocaine Hydrochloride 1.00% w/w, Chlorocresol 0.10% w/w, Cetylpyridinium Chloride 0.02% w/w, Alcohol, Clove Oil, Glycerol, Hydroxypropyl Cellulose, Sodium Saccharin, Ponceau 4R (E124), Purified Water. 

 

 

How do I use Anbesol Teething Gel?

 

Directions:

 

Adults and elderly: 

 

Apply a small amount of Anbesol Teething Gel to a clean fingertip and spread gently onto the affected area.

 

Do not apply more frequently than every 9 hours
 

Babies teething (over 5 months old) and children: 

 

Apply a pea-sized amount of Anbesol Teething Gel with a clean finger to the affected area. The may be repeated if necessary after 3 hours, up to a maximum of 6 doses in 24 hours.

 

Do not use for more than 7 days for each teething episode.

 

 

What are the side effects of Anbesol Teething Gel?

 

Possible side effects:

 

  • Allergic reactions, e.g. difficulty breathing, rash, itch
  • Ulcers
