What is a Cervical Collar?

A cervical collar which is also known as a neck brace is a medical device used to support a person's neck. Comfortable to wear whilst providing maximum support for the user, particularly useful for treating osteoporosis. • A collar should not be worn for more than 10 days after a whiplash-type injury unless advised otherwise by your GP. 

• The collar should tight but comfortable. If the collar is not on tight enough it will not support your injury and you may experience pain or risk further damage to your neck. If worn too loose it may also rub and can cause skin soreness and irritation.

How do I use the Cervical Collar (Foam)?

Directions:

• Look straight ahead and keep your chin parallel to the floor.

• Fit the collar snugly around your neck.

• Attach the fasteners at the back of your neck.

• Make sure that you can breathe comfortably.

• If the collar feels too tight, remove it and put it on again.

• Put cotton padding between the collar and your skin if the collar irritates your skin.

What are the side effects of Cervical Collar (Foam)?

Long-term use of a cervical collar may lead to weakening and stiffening of your neck muscles.
