What is Ametop Numbing Gel 1.5G?

Ametop 40mg/g Gel 1.5g is a numbing gel that helps take the "sting" out of injections and contains 4% w/w of tetracaine.

This unique gel will relieve any pain or irritation that your skin may feel after injections or blood samples are taken.

Ametop 4% Gel works quickly with a wait of only 30 to 60 minutes for it to take effect.

How does the Active Ingredient Tetracaine in Ametop Gel work to stop the pain?

Tetracaine works by temporarily blocking pain signals by preventing sodium from entering the nerve ending. This stops an electrical signal from going to the brain. 

Warnings and Precautions

• Epileptic patients should take special care.
• The gel should not be applied to wounds, or broken skin, or on the lips, mouth, tongue, eyes, ears, anal, or genital area.
• Keep out of reach of children.
• For external use only.

Do not use if:

• You are allergic to tetracaine or any of the other ingredients this product contains
• You are allergic to any other local anesthetics
• You are pregnant or breast-feeding
• The patient is less than 1 month old
• The patient is a premature baby up until one month after the expected delivery date (44 weeks gestation)

Speak to your GP or our pharmacist before using this medicine:

• As it may be toxic to the ear; therefore, you should not put Ametop Gel 4% in the ear or use it for any middle ear procedures.
• If you suffer from epilepsy.
• If you are taking or have recently taken any medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

Ingredients

4% w/w of tetracaine, purified water, sodium chloride, potassium phosphate, xanthan gum (E415), sodium hydroxide, and sodium methyl and propyl-p-hydroxybenzoate (E217 & E219).

How do I apply Ametop Numbing Gel 1.5G?

Directions:

ALWAYS follow the Ametop How To Use Instructions in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.

NOTE: The Ametop Gel How To Use Instructions will differ for Children, adults, and adolescents these all have different dose instructions.

Applying Ametop Gel

• Pierce the seal on the tube.
• Apply the contents of the tube on the area of the skin to be numbed. (Do not rub the gel into the skin)
• The gel you have applied should then be covered with a plastic film dressing which may be supplied by your GP or pharmacist.
• Each tube is intended for use on a single occasion only.

After 30-45 minutes, or as recommended by your GP or pharmacist:

• Remove the dressing and wipe the gel off the skin with a clean tissue
• Dispose of these carefully out of the reach of children
• Ametop Gel should not be left on for more than 45 minutes
• The site will remain numb for about 4-6 hours

What are the side effects of Ametop Numbing Gel 1.5G?

Like all medicines, Ametop Gel Tetracaine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.

The following side effects may happen with Ametop Gel Tetracaine:

Common side effects:

• Redness of the skin at the numbed site (more severe redness has rarely been reported).

Uncommon side effects:

• Itching and swelling of the skin at the numbed site (more severe itching and swelling may have rarely been reported).

Very Rare side effects:

• Blistering of the skin at the numbed site. If blistering occurs remove the Ametop Gel Tetracaine immediately using a clean tissue and contact your doctor or pharmacist.

The risk of experiencing side effects when using Ametop Gel Tetracaine increases with repeated use.

If you have any severe side effects stop use immediately and seek medical assistance as soon as possible.
