What are Fybogel Mebeverine Sachets?

Fybogel Mebeverine Sachets contain both ispaghula husk, a natural fibre that can help to relieve constipation, and Mebeverine, which helps to relieve abdominal cramps and pain. 

Fybogel also helps to maintain regularity and adds bulk to stools, making it easier to pass and maintain bowel regularity.

Ispaghula husk: is a natural plant material that is high in fibre and can act as a laxative. It works by increasing the bulk of the contents of your gut, helping your digestive system to work normally. 

Mebeverine hydrochloride: is a type of medicine known as an antispasmodic, working to relieve cramps and spasms in your gut and reduce your abdominal pain.

Warnings and Precautions

Not suitable for children under 12 years

Do not use if:

• You are suffering from a blockage of the bowel
• You have muscle weakness or decreased activity of the bowel
• You have difficulty swallowing and/or any throat problems
• You are suffering from severe constipation and/or have passed blood from the bowel
• You have had a sudden change in bowel habits that has persisted for more than 2 weeks

Speak to your GP or pharmacist before use if:

• You are pregnant or breastfeeding
• You are a healthcare worker or caregiver who has been administering ispaghula husk to patients for a long time - you may have become allergic due to continued inhalation of the powder
• You have an inherited condition called phenylketonuria - this product is sweetened with aspartame E951, a source of phenylalanine
• Are debilitated
• Have abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting 
• Have lost your appetite or lost weight
• Are looking pale and feeling tired
• You must not take Fybogel Mebeverine within half an hour to an hour before or after the following medicines: 
• You are diabetic and use insulin, you may need to reduce your dose of insulin if you take Fybogel Mebeverine with meals.
• You take medicines for thyroid problems
• You have a fever, abnormal vaginal bleeding or discharge, difficulty or pain passing urine
• You have acute porphyria (a metabolic disorder affecting the production of heme)
• You have reduced kidney function
• You are on a controlled potassium diet and or a low sodium diet
• You are aged 40 or over 

Ingredients

Active ingredients: 3.5g Ispagula husk and 135mg Mebeverine.

Other ingredients: Aspartame and saccharin sodium sweeteners, potassium bicarbonate, sodium bicarbonate, polysorbate 80, silica colloidal anhydrous, citric acid and riboflavin sodium phosphate colouring

How do I take Fybogel Mebeverine Sachets?

Dosage:

Adults and children aged over 12 years: Take one sachet half an hour before a meal in the morning and evening.

If necessary take an additional sachet before lunch.

Children under 12 years old: Not Suitable

What are the side effects of Fybogel Mebeverine Sachets?

Possible side effects:

• You might experience bloating or flatulence during the first few days of treatment because of the increased intake of fibre in your diet. This may lessen as you continue taking the treatment. If these symptoms are worrying you, then reduce the daily amount to 1 sachet a day.

If you have any severe side effects stop use immediately and seek medical assistance as soon as possible.
