What is Ibuprofen Twelve Plus 200mg/5ml Oral Suspension?

Ibuprofen Twelve Plus Pain Relief Oral Suspension 200mg/5ml (Double Strength). Used for children over 12 years and adults. Ideal if you are an adult who struggles with taking tablets. 

Each 5ml of oral suspension contains 200mg of Ibuprofen.

How do I take Ibuprofen Twelve Plus Pain Relief Oral Suspension?

Dosage:

Adults, the elderly, and children and adolescents aged 12 to 18 years:

ONE 5ml-10ml dose up to 3 times a day as required.

Leave AT LEAST an hour between doses.

DO NOT take more than 3 doses in 24 hours.

How long does ibuprofen take to work?

Once you have taken the correct liquid ibuprofen dosage, it generally takes between 20 and 30 minutes to start working. You will usually feel the peak pain-relieving or fever-reducing benefits within one to two hours after taking it.

Can Ibuprofen Twelve Plus be taken with food?

Taking the medication alongside a meal helps coat the stomach lining and reduces the risk of experiencing mild stomach upset or indigestion.

Children and Adolescents aged 12-18 years: 

Do Not take for longer than 3 days unless your doctor tells you to.

Adults (including the elderly):

Do Not take for longer than 10 days unless your doctor tells you to.

Do not use it if you or your child:

• Are allergic to any of the ingredients in this suspension
• Are in the last three months of pregnancy
• Have ever had a reaction after taking ibuprofen, aspirin, or any other NSAID medicines, e.g. asthma, runny nose, rash, swelling of face, tongue, lips, or throat
• Are taking any other NSAID painkillers, or aspirin with a daily dose of more than 75mg
• Have or have had stomach ulcers, perforations, or bleeding
• Have severe heart, kidney, or liver failure
• Have a history of stomach bleeding or perforation after taking ibuprofen or other NSAIDs

Speak to a GP or Pharmacist before use if you or your child:

• Are taking any other medication whether purchased or prescribed?
• Have or have had high blood pressure, heart problems, or a stroke
• Have a condition that may put you at risk of heart problems, e.g. diabetes, high cholesterol
• Have asthma or any allergic disease of the lungs
• Have or have had liver, kidney, or bowel problems
• Are dehydrated
• Have SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus)
• Suffer from chronic inflammatory bowel disease, e.g. Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis
• Are elderly
• Are a smoker
• Are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breast-feeding

Do not use if you or your child is taking:

• Any other Ibuprofen containing medicines
• Serotonin reuptake inhibitors
• Ciclosporin or Tacrolimus
• Diuretics
• Anticoagulants
• high blood pressure
• Lithium
• Methotrexate
• Zidovudine
• Corticosteroids
• Cardiac glycosides
• Mifepristone
• Quinolone antibiotics

What are the side effects of Ibuprofen Twelve Plus Pain Relief Oral Suspension? 

Side effects that you should report to your child's GP or health care professional as soon as possible are:

• allergic reactions like skin rash, itching or hives, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue
• redness, blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth
• severe stomach pain
• signs and symptoms of bleeding such as bloody or black, tarry stools; red or dark-brown urine; spitting up blood or brown material that looks like coffee grounds; red spots on the skin; unusual bruising or bleeding from the eye, gums, or nose
• signs and symptoms of a blood clot such as changes in vision; chest pain; severe, sudden headache; trouble speaking; sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm, or leg
• unexplained weight gain or swelling
• unusually weak or tired
• yellowing of eyes or skin

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention unless they are persistent:

• bruising
• diarrhea
• dizziness, drowsiness
• headache
• nausea, vomiting
