What are Lixiana (Edoxaban) Tablets?
 

Lixiana tablets contain the active ingredient Edoxaban which belongs to a group of medicines called anticoagulants. 

Lixiana Prevents:

These tablets are used to prevent stroke which is when blood clots in the brain. They also prevent blood clotting other blood vessels in the body if you have a type of irregular heart rhythm called non-valvular atrial fibrillation and at least one additional risk factor, such as heart failure, having suffered before a stroke or hypertension.

Lixiana Treats:

These tablets are used to treat deep vein thrombosis which is when blood clots in the veins of the legs. They also treat blood clotting in the blood vessels of the lungs (pulmonary embolism). Lixiana will then work to prevent these blood clots from reappearing in the blood vessels of the legs and/or from the lungs.

How does Edoxaban work as a treatment for Cardiovascular diseases?

Edoxaban works by decreasing the clotting ability of the blood and helps prevent harmful clots from forming in the blood vessels.

What are Cardiovascular Diseases?

Cardiovascular disease includes numerous problems that effect the heart and blood vessels. A person with cardiovascular disease may be symptomatic or be asymptomatic. 

List of most common Cardiovascular diseases:

• Arrhythmia

• Valve disease

• Coronary artery disease

• Heart failure

• Peripheral artery disease

• Aortic disease

• Congenital heart disease

• Pericardial disease

• Cerebrovascular disease.

• Deep vein thrombosis

Problems included in cardiovascular diseases are:

• Abnormal heart rhythms.

• Heart valve disease.

• Narrowing of the blood vessels in your heart, other organs or throughout your body with plaque.

• Heart squeezing (tightening) and relaxation difficulties.

• Heart and blood vessel problems from birth.

• Problems with your heart’s outer lining.

Emergency supplys of Lixiana:

Lixiana is a prescription only medicine and an Emergency Supply can only be issued if you are currently being prescribed this medication by your GP for Cardiovascular diseases.  You will need to fill out a questionnaire, which is then reviewed to make sure Lixiana is a suitable treatment for you. You will also need to upload proof that you have used this item before. If your order is approved, your Lixiana can be sent directly to you.

Warnings and Precautions

Always take this medication exactly as directed by your GP.

Keep out of sight and Reach of children.

If you are taking any new medications even over the counter medicines whilst taking Lixiana you should make your GP aware to prevent interactions.

How do I take Lixiana (Edoxaban) Tablets?
 

Edoxaban must be used exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are unsure contact your GP.

Recommended starting dose is usually:

60mg once a day

Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed.

• You can take this medicine before or after meals.

• It should be taken at the same time each day, with a glass of water.

What are the side effects of Lixiana (Edoxaban)Tablets?

Common side effects:

• stomach ache

• abnormal results in liver values ​​in blood tests

• bleeding from the skin or under the skin

• anemia (low levels of red blood cells)

• nasal bleeding

• vaginal bleeding

• acne

• bowel bleeding

• bleeding from the mouth and / or throat

• blood in the urine

• bleeding after injury (puncture)

• stomach bleeding

• dizziness

• headache

• Itchiness

Uncommon side effects:

• bleeding in the eyes

• bleeding from a surgical wound after an operation

• blood in saliva when coughing

• bleeding in the brain

• decreased number of platelets in the blood (which can affect clotting)

• allergic reaction

• urticaria

Rare side effects:

• bleeding in the muscles

• joint bleeding

• bleeding in the abdomen

• bleeding in the heart

• bleeding inside the skull

• bleeding after surgery

• allergic shock

• swelling of any part of the body due to the allergic reaction
