What are Ikorel (Nicorandil) Tablets?

 

Ikorel tablets contain the active ingredient is Nicorandil which belongs to a group of medicines called potassium-channel activators. Nicorandil is used to prevent or lessen the symptoms of painful exertion (angina pectoris) of your heart disease.

 

How does Nicorandil work as a treatment for Cardiovascular diseases?

 

Nicorandil works by increasing blood flow through the blood vessels of the heart. It does this by relaxing and widening the blood vessels which then improves the supply of blood and oxygen to your heart muscle and reduces your hearts workload.

 

What are Cardiovascular Diseases?

 

Cardiovascular disease includes numerous problems that effect the heart and blood vessels. A person with cardiovascular disease may be symptomatic or be asymptomatic.

Problems included in cardiovascular diseases are:

 

  • Abnormal heart rhythms.

  • Heart valve disease.

  • Narrowing of the blood vessels in your heart, other organs, or throughout your body with plaque.

Ikorel is a prescription only medicine and an Emergency Supply can only be issued if you are currently being prescribed this medication by your GP for Cardiovascular diseases.  You will need to fill out a questionnaire, which is then reviewed to make sure Ikorel is a suitable treatment for you. You will also need to upload proof that you have used this item before. If your order is approved, your Ikorel can be sent directly to you.

 

Warnings and Precautions

 

Always take this medication exactly as directed by your GP.

 

Keep out of sight and reach of children.

 

If you are taking any new medications even over the counter medicines whilst taking Ikorel (Nicorandil) you should make your GP aware to prevent interactions.

How do I take Ikorel (Nicorandil) Tablets?

 

Nicorandil must be used exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are unsure contact your GP.

 

Recommended starting dose is usually:

 

 10mg TWICE a day. (ONE in the morning and ONE in the evening)

 

Your GP may increase the dose up to 20mg TWICE a day

 

  • You can take this medicine before or after meals.

  • It should be taken with a glass of water.

 

 

What are the side effects of Ikorel (Nicorandil) Tablets?


Very common side effects:

 

  • Headache

 

Common side effects:

 

  • Dizziness

  • Palpitations

  • Redness of the skin

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

  • Feeling of weakness

 

Uncommon side effects:

 

  • Drop-in blood

 

Rare side effects:

 

  • Acne

  • Itchiness

  • Muscle pain not caused by exercise

 

Very rare side effects:

 

  • Hyperkalemia

  • Conjunctivitis

  • Eye injuries

  • Corneal injuries

  • Yellowing of the skin and eyes, light-coloured stools, dark-coloured urine

  • Swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat can cause difficulty in swallowing or breathe.

  • Stomach ache
