What are Dipyridamole 200mg MR Capsules?

Dipyridamole belongs to a group of medicines that prevent platelet aggregation. It can be referred to as a blood thinner. They can be used by patients at a high risk of stroke or other serious medical problems which may occur when a blood vessel is blocked by blood clots .

How does Dipyridamole work?

Dipyridamole works by preventing blood cells called platelets from clumping together inside the blood vessels. It also dilates the blood vessels. This reduces the risk of stroke and other medical issues.

What are Cardiovascular Diseases?
 

Cardiovascular disease includes numerous problems that affect the heart and blood vessels. A person with cardiovascular disease may be symptomatic or asymptomatic. 

List of most common Cardiovascular diseases:

• Arrhythmia
• Valve disease
• Coronary artery disease
• Heart failure
• Peripheral artery disease
• Aortic disease
• Congenital heart disease
• Pericardial disease
• Cerebrovascular disease
• Deep vein thrombosis

Problems included in cardiovascular diseases are:

• Abnormal heart rhythms
• Heart valve disease
• Narrowing of the blood vessels in your heart, other organs, or throughout your body with plaque
• Heart squeezing (tightening) and relaxation difficulties
• Heart and blood vessel problems from birth
• Problems with your heart’s outer lining

Emergency supplys of Dipyridamole:

Dipyridamole is a prescription only medicine and an Emergency Supply can only be issued if you are currently being prescribed this medication by your GP for Cardiovascular diseases.  You will need to fill out a questionnaire, which is then reviewed to make sure Dipyridamole is a suitable treatment for you. You will also need to upload proof that you have used this item before. If your order is approved, your Dipyridamole can be sent directly to you.

Warnings and Precautions

Always take this medication exactly as directed by your GP.

Keep out of sight and reach of children.

If you are taking any new medications even over the counter medicines whilst taking Dipyridamole you should make your GP aware to prevent interactions.

How do I take Dipyridamole 200mg MR capsules?

Dipyridamole must be used exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are unsure contact your GP.

Recommended starting dose is usually:

75 to 100mg four times a day taken together with an anticoagulant (blood-thinning) medicine

Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed.

• You can take this medicine up to 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals
• It should be taken at the same time each day, with a glass of water

What are the side effects of Dipyridamole 200mg MR capsules?

More common side effects:

• Abdominal or stomach cramps
• diarrhea
• dizziness or lightheadedness

Less common side effects:

• Flushing
• headache
• nausea or vomiting
• weakness

Rare side effects:

• General discomfort and/or unusual tiredness or weakness
• hair loss
• joint pain or swelling
• muscle pain
• runny nose
• sneezing
