Acid Reflux

Acid reflux is caused when stomach acid comes up through the oesophagus and potentially into the patients mouth. It can cause a bitter unpleasant taste but more commonly can cause heartburn and is one of the symptoms of GORD (Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease). Medical causes of acid reflux include; a hiatal hernia and pregnancy.

Diet and lifestyle can cause acid Reflux. Some of these include:-

  • Lying down after eating
  • Eating too close to bedtime
  • Taking Aspirin or Ibuprofen.
  • Eating a diet high in fat, chillis, spice
  • Smoking and Alcohol

While sustained (chronic) suffering could be an indication of another underlying illness, occasional (acute) acid reflux is usually caused by eating habits and diet and can be alleviated with diet and lifestyle changes or mild medication. Here at Simply Meds Online we stock a range of medications that help to alleviate symptoms of acute acid reflux.  If you are concerned about your acid reflux, please consult your GP.
