Progynova Tablets: Things you need to know

Progynova is used for hormone replacement therapy (HRT). It contains the female hormone estrogen

(Estrogen) Estradiol replaces the loss of Estrogen production in menopausal women and helps to relieve the symptoms of the menopause.

Progynova is used to relieve symptoms of the menopause. These symptoms are caused by a decrease in the women's hormone estrogen and can cause symptoms such as:

Night sweats
Insomnia
Hot flushes
Loss of libido
Pain during sexual intercourse
Dry mucous membranes (eys, vagina, mouth)
Osteoporosis
Anxiety, irritability, depression

Progynova is also used in the prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women who are at high risk for fractures and who cannot use other osteoporosis treatments.

All medicines can cause side effects. HRT medication can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The following diseases have been reported more frequently in women taking HRT compared to women not taking them:

Breast cancer
Abnormal growth of the lining of the uterus or uterine cancer (endometrial hyperplasia or cancer)
Ovarian cancer
Blood clots in the veins of the legs or lungs (venous thromboembolism)
Heart disease
Ictus
Probable memory loss if HRT is started over 65 years

The following side effects may occur with this medicine:

Common (may affect more than 1 in 10 patients):

Headache
Abdominal pain
Back pain
Tenderness or pain in the breasts
