What is Ovex Suspension?
Ovex Suspension is a single-dose banana-flavoured liquid treatment for threadworms.
Threadworm is contagious, and when one person in your family has it, it can spread to the rest of your family quickly. This is why it is advisable you treat the family as soon as possible and take precautions to prevent reinfection. In case of re-infection, a second dose can be taken after 2 weeks.
Threadworm, or pinworm, is an infection that affects your digestive system. This happens when you come into contact with threadworm eggs and swallow them. The eggs will then hatch into tiny, thread-like worms in your gut and begin to lay more eggs around your anus.

Key symptoms of threadworm to look out for are:
- Unusually itchy anus and or vagina (especially at night)
- A small thread like worms in faeces
- Irritation around the anus
What is the active ingredient in Ovex Family Pack, and how does it work to treat threadworms?
The active ingredient in Ovex is Mebendazole. Mebendazole is a type of medication called an ‘anthelmintic’, which means it treats threadworms by depriving the worms in your system of the sugars they need to survive. You should start to see an improvement in your symptoms within a few days after taking Ovex as the worms begin to die out.
Warnings and Precautions
Not suitable for children under 2 years of age.
Do not use if:
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients these tablets contain.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding (speak to your GP).
Speak to your GP or Pharmacist before use if:
- You are taking Metronidazole, which is used to treat bacterial and protozoan infections.
- You are taking Cimetidine, which is used to treat excess stomach acidity.
- You are taking any other medication.
Each pack contains 6x 5ml treatments of threadworms to effectively treat a whole family.
Suitable for Adults and Children over the age of 2 years.
Ingredients
The active ingredient in Ovex Suspension is: Mebendazole 100 mg per 5 ml.
Other ingredients are: Sucrose, Microcrystalline cellulose and carmellose sodium, Methylcellulose, Methylparahydroxybenzoate (E218), Propylparahydroxybenzoate (E216), Sodium laurilsulfate, banana flavour (containing propylene glycol (E1520)), citric acid monohydrate and purified water.
