Wegovy 7.2mg SDD Pen (Semaglutide)

Did you use the 7.2mg with three 2.4mg FlexTouch Pens injections?
Important: do not use this new 7.2mg Single-Dose Device four times.

Wegovy is a prescription weight-loss treatment containing semaglutide. It works in a similar way to a natural hormone called GLP-1, which your body releases after eating. This helps reduce appetite, increase feelings of fullness and make it easier to eat less. Patients see an average weight loss of around 17%.

Wegovy 7.2mg SDD Pen (Semaglutide): Things you need to know

Did you use the 7.2mg with three 2.4mg FlexTouch Pens injections?
Important: do not use this new 7.2mg Single-Dose Device four times.

The new SDD pen already contains the full 7.2mg weekly dose. Use one pen, once weekly, unless your prescriber tells you otherwise.

Ensure you hold the pen in place until you have the full dose, this can take between 5- 10 seconds.  Once the pen is pressed firmly against your skin, keep holding it in place until the yellow bar has stopped moving. Do not lift the pen early.

What are the Wegovy SDD 7.2 Pens

Wegovy is a prescription weight-loss treatment containing semaglutide. It works in a similar way to a natural hormone called GLP-1, which your body releases after eating. This helps reduce appetite, increase feelings of fullness and make it easier to eat less. Patients see an average weight loss of around 17%.

Wegovy can support weight loss by changing how hungry you feel, but it works best as part of a wider plan. Eating well, being more active and building healthier routines can improve your results and make them easier to maintain long term. This is especially true for if/when you stop treatment.

The 7.2mg Wegovy Single-Dose Pen is a newer, higher-dose option for people who are already established on Wegovy. It is not a starting dose.

Wegovy 7.2mg is only available if:

  • you have been following a Wegovy treatment plan for at least 20 weeks
  • your BMI was 30 or above when you first started Wegovy (or over 27 with a weight-related health concern)
  • a prescriber has approved this dose for you

If you do not meet these requirements, please start with the 0.25mg Wegovy FlexTouch Pen.

The maximum dose is 7.2mg once weekly.

What results could you see?

In a 72-week medical study, people using Wegovy alongside diet and increased activity lost an average of 19% of their body weight. 89% of people lost 5% or more.

In the same study, around 1 in 3 people using the Wegovy HD pen lost 25% or more of their body weight.

Individual results can vary.

How different to other pens (FlexTouch vs SDD)

FlexTouch pens are the standard Wegovy pen and are currently used for the lower doses (0.25mg - 2.4mg). Each pen contains four doses, so you use the same pen once a week over several weeks, following the dose instructions for that strength.

The new Single-Dose Device (SDD) works differently, it is designed to be used just once. The full dose is already set inside the pen, so there is no dose to select or adjust. You place the pen against your skin, hold it firmly in place, and keep holding until the injection has finished, normally 5-10 seconds. Currently the only Strength / dose available in an SDD if the 7.2mg.

Who Can use the new 7.2mg Single-Dose Device
To buy / use the patient must have a BMI ≥30 and a history of obesity prior to treatment starting (taking your first dose of Wegovy 0.25mg)

How you use it

Already using 7.2mg with three 2.4mg injections?
If you currently take 7.2mg Wegovy using three 2.4mg FlexTouch injections, the new 7.2mg Single-Dose Device works differently.

Each 7.2mg Single-Dose Device contains one full weekly dose. This means your weekly dose is now given as one injection from one pen.

Do not use three 7.2mg pens. This would be more than your prescribed weekly dose.

FAQs

  • I am taking 7.2mg using 3 x 2.4mg FlexiPens, do I still need to take three injections with the new 7.2 pen?
  • No. If you are supplied with the Wegovy 7.2mg Single-Dose Device, you take one injection only. The full 7.2mg dose is already in the pen.
  • Do I still need to change needles?
  • No, not in the same way as the three-injection FlexTouch method. The Single-Dose Device has an embedded needle and is used once and then disposed of safely after the injection.
  • How long does the Wegovy 7.2mg Single-Dose Pen take to inject?
  • The injection usually takes around 5–10 seconds.
Once the pen is pressed firmly against your skin, keep holding it in place until the yellow bar fills the window. Do not lift the pen early.
  • How do I know if I have had the full dose?
  • You should have received the full dose if:
    • the pen was pressed firmly against your skin
    • you kept it held in place
    • the yellow bar fills the window
    • you did not lift the pen early
  • The yellow bar is the thing to watch, once it has stopped moving, the injection should be complete.

  • Why do I need to keep the pen pushed down for 10 seconds?
  • The Wegovy 7.2mg Single-Dose Pen needs a few seconds to deliver the full dose. If you lift the pen too soon, the injection may stop before the full dose has been given.
  • What if I remove the pen too early?
  • You may not receive the full dose. Contact our clinical team for advice before taking any more Wegovy. Do not use another pen unless a prescriber tells you to.
  • What if I lift the pen before 10 seconds?
  • If you lift the pen early, you may not have received the full dose.
Do not use another pen to “top up” your dose. Contact our customer support team first so they can advise you safely.
  • What if I’m not sure the full dose went in?
  • If you are unsure, contact us before taking any more Wegovy.
Do not repeat the dose or use another pen, as you may accidentally take too high a dose.
  • Should I change my injection day?
  • No, not unless your prescriber tells you to. The 7.2mg Single-Dose Device still replaces your usual once-weekly Wegovy dose.
