What are Nurofen Cold & Flu Tablets?

 

Nurofen Cold and Flu tablets contain Ibuprofen (a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) and Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride (a decongestant) to provide relief of blocked nose and sinuses, headache, fever, aches & pains, and sore throat without causing drowsiness and affecting your daily lifestyle.

 

Contains Ibuprofen and Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride.

 

What are the Active ingredients in Nurofen Cold & Flu tablets and what do they do?

 

The active ingredients in these tablets are Ibuprofen and Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride.

 

Ibuprofen is a medicine that belongs to a group of medicines known as Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) and is effective at relieving aches, pains, and swelling and can also reduce a fever.

 

Pseudoephedrine is a nasal decongestant that reduces swelling in the passages of the nose, relieving nasal congestion and reducing the pressure that can cause headaches.

 

Warnings and Precautions

 

Do not exceed the stated dose

Avoid MAOI (Monoamine oxidase inhibitors for depression) therapy.

 

DO NOT USE IF:

 

  • You are allergic to any ingredient of the medicine

  • You are taking any other NSAID painkillers, such as aspirin, with a daily dose of more than 75mg

  • You have, or have had more than two episodes of a stomach ulcer or stomach bleeding

  • You have a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation due to taking NSAIDs

  • You have severe kidney, heart, or liver failure

  • You suffer from blood clotting disorders

  • You have an undiagnosed problem with your body’s ability to form blood

  • You are severely dehydrated

 

Speak to your GP before usisng ibuprofen if:

 

  • You are over 65 years old.

  • You have serious skin reactions

  • You have a hereditary blood formation disorder

  • You have asthma or allergies

  • You have hayfever, nasal polyps, chronic obstructive respiratory disorders

  • You have reduced liver or kidney function

  • You have recently had major surgery

  • You have stomach or bowel disorders

  • You have systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) or mixed connective tissue disease

  • You have any heart problems

  • You have high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, a family history of heart disease or stroke, or are a smoker

 

Ingredients

 

Each tablet contains the active ingredients: ibuprofen (200mg), and phenylephrine hydrochloride (5mg).

 

The other ingredients are: cellulose, sodium starch glycolate, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, talc, mastercote yellow (contains hydroxypropylmethylcellulose E464), Titanium Dioxide (E171), Quinoline Aluminium Lake (E104) and Sunset Yellow Aluminium Lake (E110) and black printing ink (contains shellac, iron oxide black (E172) and propylene glycol)

 

How do I take Nurofen Cold & Flu Tablets?

 

Dosage:

 

  • Take ONE or TWO tablets of water THREE times a day as required.

  • Leave at least 4 hours between each dose.

  • Do not take more than 6 tablets in any 24-hour period.

  • Do not take for more than 7 days unless your doctor tells you to.

  • Not to be taken if you have or ever had 2 or more episodes of stomach ulcer, perforation, or bleeding.

  • Not to be given to children under 12 years of age.

  • Not to be taken with any other NSAID.

  • Take it with food.

 

What are the side effects of Nurofen Cold & Flu Tablets?

 

Possible side effects:

 

  • Reactions such as headache, dizziness, skin rash, and depression may occur occasionally with ibuprofen.

  • Gastric irritation, nausea, dyspepsia, and stomach bleeding.

  • Side effects with Pseudoephedrine are rare but may cause sleep disturbance, increased heartbeat, skin rash, dry mouth, nose, or throat, or difficulty in passing urine. Rarely hallucinations have been reported.
