What is Dettol Liquid?

Dettol liquid is a concentrated antiseptic that can be used for first aid and personal hygiene. This product is great for killing germs and preventing infection in minor wounds like cuts and grazes. 

What are some of the uses of Dettol Liquid?

Dettol can be used for:

• Minor wounds like cuts and grazes 
• Insect bites or stings 
• Dandruff
• Spots and pimples
• Personal hygiene or douching

Dettol will help with all the problems listed above by killing bacteria which prevents the skin from becoming infected and also sterilise the skin.

Warnings and Precautions

• Keep out of sight and reach of children.
• For external use only. 

What not to do with Dettol:

• Not to be used undiluted.
• Not for use around eyes, ears, nose, or mouth. (If contact is made, wash thoroughly with cold water).
• Not for use on large areas of the body or on sensitive skin.
• Do not use it if you are allergic to any of the ingredients this product contains.
• Do not swallow this product.
• Do not use it on eczema or any similar skin conditions.
• Do not use this product around cats. 
• If you experience any irritation while using this product, stop use. If irritation persists, speak to your GP or pharmacist right away.

Ingredients:

Dettol Liquid contains Chloroxylenol 4.8% w/v as the active substance and Pine Oil, Isopropyl Alcohol, and Caustic Soda Solution

Also contains Castor Oil which may cause skin reactions

How do use Dettol Liquid?

Directions:

Wound Cleansing:

Wash the affected area with two and a half teaspoons (12.5ml) of Dettol Liquid diluted in 1/2 pint (1/4 liter) of water.

Personal Hygiene/Douching:

Two teaspoonfuls (10ml) of Dettol diluted in two pints (1L) of warm water.

Dandruff:

One tablespoonful of Dettol diluted in one pint of warm water. Saturate hair and scalp for 10 minutes, then shampoo.

Spots & Pimples:

Bathe the affected area daily with one tablespoonful of Dettol diluted in half a pint of warm water (not for eczematous conditions).

Always DILUTE Dettol before use!

What are the side effects of Dettol Liquid?

Topical application of undiluted chloroxylenol can cause skin burning.

Some of the side effects of using Dettol:

• Skin reactions e.g. contact dermatitis
• Skin irritation
• Shortness of breath
• Swelling of face, hands, and legs.

Contact your doctor or nurse if you observe any of these side effects or any other ones not listed here after using Dettol.
