What is Cocois Ointment?

Cocois Coconut Oil Compound Ointment is a medicated scalp treatment designed to help relieve itching, dry, and scaly skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, dandruff and other inflammatory conditions that irritate the skin.

The formula contains coal tar solution 12% w/w, salicylic acid 2% w/w and sulphur 4% w/w. These ingredients work together to help reduce excessive hardening, thickening and scaling of the skin. Coal tar solution and sulphur also have mild antiseptic properties; this can reduce itching.

Sebco is a branded version of this type of coconut oil compound scalp ointment.

Ingredients may vary between brands

Active ingredients: Coal tar solution (12% w/w), salicylic acid (2% w/w) and sulphur for external use (4% w/w).

Other ingredients: Coconut oil, white soft paraffin, glycerol, cetostearyl alcohol, liquid paraffin, polyoxyethylene glycerol monostearate, hard paraffin.

How do I use Cocois Ointment?

Always read the information provided on the box and/or leaflet.

Apply to the affected areas of the scalp and remove after one hour using warm water and a shampoo.

Repeat the process daily for three to seven days or as directed by your doctor. Discontinue use if irritation or rash develops.

If your symptoms persist for more than four weeks, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

If you have any severe side effects, stop use immediately and seek medical assistance as soon as possible.

Like all medicines, Cocois can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

These include:

• Irritation of the skin
• Inflammation of the hair follicles
• Acne-like eruptions
• Hair loss
• Discolouration of skin and hair
• A rash from sensitivity to sunlight. This is rare.
• If you have asthma or if anyone in your family is allergic to aspirin, Cocois may cause difficulty in breathing or tightness in your chest. This is very rare.

Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use.
