Olmetec tablets come in three strengths: 10mg, 20mg and 40mg.

What are Olmetec Tablets?

Olmetec contains the active ingredient Olmesartan which is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). This medication may be used alone or together with other medicines to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).

How does the active ingredient Olmesartan work as a treatment for High Blood Pressure?

Olmesartan works  by relaxing blood vessels so that blood passes through them more easily. Relaxed vessels increase the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart which improve blood pressure and the hearts workload.

What is High Blood Pressure?
 

High blood pressure is added workload to the heart and arteries. If this added  pressure continues for a long period of time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. High blood pressure may also increase the risk of heart attacks. With controlled treatment of high blood pressure these problems may be less likely to occur.

Emergency supplys of Olmetec:

Olmetec is a prescription only medicine and an Emergency Supply can only be issued if you are currently being prescribed this medication by your GP for high blood pressure.  You will need to fill out a questionnaire, which is then reviewed to make sure Olmetec is a suitable treatment for you. You will also need to upload proof that you have used this item before. If your order is approved, your Olmetec can be sent directly to you.

Warnings and Precautions:

Always take this medication exactly as directed by your GP.

Keep out of sight and Reach of children.

If you are taking any new medications even over the counter medicines whilst taking Olmetec you should make your GP aware to prevent interactions.

Some patients experience spells of dizziness while taking Olmetec tablets. Make sure this does not apply to you before driving a car or working with machinery.

How do I take Olmetec Tablets?

Olmetec Tablets must be used exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are unsure contact your GP.
 

Recommended starting dose is usually:

ONE 10mg tablet daily.

Your doctor may increase the dose to 20 mg or 40 mg per day or prescribe additional treatment if your blood pressure isn't under control with the lower dose.

It should be taken at the same time each day, with a glass of water.

What are the side effects of Olmetec Tablets?

• Back pain
• Diarrhoea
• Dry mouth
• Flushed, dry skin
• Fruit-like breath odor
• General feeling of discomfort or illness
• Increased hunger
• Increased thirst
• Increased urination
• Loss of appetite
• Muscle aches
• Pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
• Shivering
• Tender, swollen glands in the neck
• Trouble sleeping
• Trouble swallowing
• Unexplained weight loss

Rare side effects:

• Acid or sour stomach
• Belching
• Difficulty with moving
• Feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
• Heartburn
• Indigestion
• Rapid weight gain
• Rash
• Sensation of spinning
• Tingling of the hands or feet
• Unusual weight gain or loss
