Micardis Plus comes in three strengths: 40/12.5mg, 80/12.5mg and 80/25mg

What are Micardis Plus Tablets?

Micardis Plus contains Telmisartan which is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) and Hydrochlorothiazide which is a thiazide diuretic (water pill). This medication may be used alone or together with other medicines to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).

How do the active ingredients Telmisartan and Hydrochlorothiazide work as a treatment for High Blood Pressure?

Telmisartan works by relaxing blood vessels so that blood passes through them more easily. Relaxed vessels increase the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart which improve blood pressure and the hearts workload.

Hydrochlorothiazide works by reducing the amount of water in the body by increasing the flow of urine. This helps lower blood pressure.
 

What is High Blood Pressure?

High blood pressure is added workload to the heart and arteries. If this added  pressure continues for a long period of time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. High blood pressure may also increase the risk of heart attacks. With controlled treatment of high blood pressure these problems may be less likely to occur.
 

Emergency supplys of Micardis Plus:
 

Micardis Plus is a prescription only medicine and an Emergency Supply can only be issued if you are currently being prescribed this medication by your GP for high blood pressure.  You will need to fill out a questionnaire, which is then reviewed to make sure Micardis Plus is a suitable treatment for you. You will also need to upload proof that you have used this item before. If your order is approved, your Micardis Plus can be sent directly to you.

Warnings and Precautions

Always take this medication exactly as directed by your GP.

Keep out of sight and Reach of children.

If you are taking any new medications even over the counter medicines whilst taking Micardis Plus you should make your GP aware to prevent interactions.

Some patients experience spells of dizziness while taking Micardis Plus tablets. Make sure this does not apply to you before driving a car or working with machinery.

How do I take Micardis Plus Tablets?

Micardis Plus must be used exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are unsure contact your GP.

Recommended dose is usually:

ONE tablet containing 40mg of telmisartan and 12.5 mg of hydrochlorothiazide once a day.

Your doctor may adjust your dose if needed.

• It should be taken at the same time each day, with a glass of water.

What are the side effects of Micardis Plus Tablets?

Common side effects:

• Body aches or pain

• cough

• difficulty breathing

• dizziness

• ear congestion

• fever

• headache

• loss of voice

• runny or stuffy nose

• sneezing

• sore throat

Less common side effects:

• Acid or sour stomach

• back pain

• belching

• blistering, peeling, loosening of the skin

• cough producing mucus

• diarrhea

• heartburn

• hoarseness

• indigestion

• itching

• joint pain

• loss of appetite

• muscle aches and pains

• pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones

• rash

• red irritated eyes

• red skin lesions, often with a purple center

• shivering

• sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips

• stomach pain

• sweating

• tender, swollen glands in the neck

• tightness in the chest

• trouble sleeping

• trouble swallowing

• voice changes
