Lacidipine tablets comes in two strengths: 2mg and 4mg.

What are Lacidipine Tablets?
 

Lacidipine 5mg tablets belongs to a group of medicines known as calcium channel blockers. This medication may be used alone or together with other medicines to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).

How does Lacidipine work as a treatment for High Blood Pressure?
 

Lacidipine works by affecting the movement of calcium into the cells of the heart and blood vessels. It relaxes and widens the blood vessels and increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart which improve blood pressure and the hearts workload.
 

What is High Blood Pressure?
 

High blood pressure is added workload to the heart and arteries. If this added  pressure continues for a long period of time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. High blood pressure may also increase the risk of heart attacks. With controlled treatment of high blood pressure these problems may be less likely to occur.
 

Emergency supplys of Lacidipine:
 

Lacidipine is a prescription only medicine and an emergency prescription supply can only be issued if you are currently being prescribed this medication by your GP for high blood pressure.  You will need to fill out a questionnaire, which is then reviewed to make sure Lacidipine is a suitable treatment for you. You will also need to upload proof that you have used this item before. If your order is approved, your Lacidipine can be sent directly to you.

Warnings and Precautions:

Always take this medication exactly as directed by your GP.

Keep out of sight and Reach of children.

Do not eat or drink grapefruit or grapefruit juice, as this can interact with the medicine.

If you are taking any new medications even over the counter medicines whilst taking Lacidipine you should make your GP aware to prevent interactions.

How do I take Lacidipine Tablets?
 

Lacidipine must be used exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are unsure contact your GP.

Recommended starting dose is usually:

2mg Lacidipine - Take ONE tablet once daily preferably in the morning.

The dose can be increased to 4mg once daily.
 

• You can take this medicine before or after meals.
• It should be taken at the same time each day, with a glass of water.
• Do not take Amlodipine with grapefruit juice.

What are the side effects of Lacidipine Tablets?

Very common side effects:

• Fluid retention (Edema)

Common side effects:

• Headache, dizziness, drowsiness (especially at the beginning of treatment)
• Palpitations, feeling of suffocation
• Abdominal pain
• Nausea
• Diarrhea, constipation, indigestion
• Tiredness, weakness
• Visual disturbances, double vision
• Muscle cramps
• Swollen ankles
•  

Uncommon side effects:

• Mood swings, anxiety, depression, insomnia
• Tremor, taste disturbances, fainting
• Numbness or tingling sensation in the extremities, loss of pain sensation
• Ringing in the ears
• Decreased blood pressure
• Sneezing / runny nose caused by rhinitis
• Cough
• Dry mouth
• Vomiting
• Hair loss, increased sweating, itchy skin, red spots on the skin, skin discoloration
• Disorder of urination, increased need to urinate at night, increased number of times to urinate
• Impossibility of obtaining an erection, discomfort or increase of the breasts in men
• Pain, feeling unwell
• Pain in muscles or joints, back pain
• Weight gain or loss

Rare side effects:

• Confusion

Very rare side effects:

• Decreased white blood cell number, decreased blood platelets which can cause easy bleeding or unusual bruising
• Excess blood sugar 
• Muscle weakness, tingling, or numbness
• Inflammation of the gums
• Abdominal bloating
• Abnormal liver function, hepatitis, yellowing of the skin (jaundice), increased liver enzymes that may have an effect on some medical tests
• Increased muscle tension
• Inflammation of the blood vessels, often with skin rashes
• Light sensitivity
• Disorders combining stiffness, tremor and/or movement disorders

Common side effects should not trouble you for more than 7 days if any of those side effects effect you for longer seek medical advise.
