What are Amiloride Tablets?

Amiloride tablets belong to a group of medicines known as diuretics (water tablets). This medication is usually used in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).

How does Amiloride work as a treatment for High Blood Pressure?

Amiloride works by reducing the amount of water your body retains and reduces the loss of to much potassium . These tablets make you pass more urine, they remove fluid from your body, which lowers your blood pressure levels and makes it easier for your heart to pump your blood through your body. 
 

What is High Blood Pressure?

High blood pressure is added workload to the heart and arteries. If this added  pressure continues for a long period of time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. High blood pressure may also increase the risk of heart attacks. With controlled treatment of high blood pressure these problems may be less likely to occur.
 

Emergency supply of Amiloride:
 

Amiloride is a prescription only medicine and an Emergency prescription supply can only be issued if you are currently being prescribed this medication by your GP for high blood pressure.  You will need to fill out a questionnaire, which is then reviewed to make sure Amiloride is a suitable treatment for you. You will also need to upload proof that you have used this item before. If your order is approved, your Amiloride can be sent directly to you.

Warnings and Precautions

Always take this medication exactly as directed by your GP.

Keep out of sight and Reach of children.

If you are taking any new medications even over the counter medicines whilst taking Amiloride you should make your GP aware to prevent interactions.

Some patients experience spells of dizziness while taking Amiloride tablets. Make sure this does not apply to you before driving a car or working with machinery.

How do I take Amiloride 5mg Tablets?

Amiloride must be used exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are unsure contact your GP.

Recommended dose is usually:

ONE tablet once daily

• Best taken in the morning.

• It should be taken at the same time each day, with a glass of water.

What are the side effects of Amiloride 5mg Tablets?

Common side effects:

• Abdominal pain

• confusion

• difficulty with breathing

• irregular heartbeat

• nausea or vomiting

• nervousness

• numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips

• shortness of breath

• weakness or heaviness of the legs

Less common side effects:

• Agitation

• back pain

• blurred vision

• coma

• dizziness

• drowsiness

• fever

• hallucinations

• headache

• irritability

• labored breathing

• mood or mental changes

• seizures 

• stiff neck

• tightness in the chest

• unusual tiredness or weakness

• vomiting

• wheezing
