Nevanac 1mg/ml Eye Drops

What are Nevanac Eye Drops?

Nevanac eye drops are prescribed for adults to help manage pain and reduce inflammation in the eye following cataract surgery. In patients with diabetes, it is also used to lower the chance of developing macular oedema, a type of swelling at the back of the eye that can occur after this procedure.

The active ingredient in Nevanac is nepafenac, which belongs to the group of medicines known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

Each dose of this medicine contains 0.25 mg of benzalkonium chloride. This preservative can be absorbed by soft contact lenses and may cause them to become discoloured. For this reason, contact lenses should be removed before applying the drops and should not be reinserted until at least 15 minutes afterwards.

Benzalkonium chloride may also irritate the eyes, particularly in people with dry eyes or corneal conditions. If you notice unusual sensations, burning, stinging, or eye pain after using the drops, you should contact your doctor.

How To Use

• Always use Nevanac exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has instructed.
• The usual dose is one drop in the affected eye(s), three times a day, starting the day before cataract surgery and continuing for several weeks afterwards (your doctor will tell you how long).
• Shake the bottle well before each use.
• Wash your hands and tilt your head back slightly. Pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket and place one drop inside.
• Close your eye gently and press the corner of your eye (near the nose) for about one minute. This helps keep the medicine in the eye and reduces it draining into the rest of your body.
• If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before putting them back in.
• If you are using other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes between Nevanac and the other medicine.
