Why do shoes get a bad odour?

Your shoes begin to smell because your feet sweat. When your feet sweat, bacteria are attracted to this sweat and they create an unpleasant odour. This odour lingers on your feet and can be transferred into your shoes, where the bacteria can thrive if left unattended.
