What is Tadalafil

Tadalafil is the generic form of the erectile dysfunction treatment; Cialis. Tadalafil works in the exact same was as Cialis and will be just as effective. The only difference is that it is unbranded and subsequently cheaper Cialis. Tadalafil is available in 2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg and 20mg tablets. The first two strengths are to be taken daily in order to be effective, whereas 10mg and 20mg strengths are to be taken when needed.

Tadalafil as a generic medicine wasn’t available until very recently due to the expiry of the Cialis patent previously Bayer.

What causes Erectile Dysfunction?

Erectile Dysfunction has been reported as a symptom of high blood pressure, poor circulation and early onset diabetes. It also tends to be more common in people who smoke and/or are overweight. However, it can affect anyone no matter their age or health.

Other possible causes can be stress, drinking alcohol, and cycling (for over 3 hours a day). (NHS)

Why should I treat my erectile dysfunction?

In addition to taking back control of your sexual life there can be other reasons as to why you should treat your erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction may lead to other issues such as stress, anxiety and depression. If you think that these conditions have been caused by erectile dysfunction you should consider treating your ED.

How does Tadalafil work?

Tadalafil increases the blood flow to the penis. This will help you get and maintain a healthy erection. Tadalafil boosts the chemical messages that stimulate an erection.

Tadalafil will not work unless you are aroused. This is because it cannot boost a chemical message if there isn’t one there to start with.

You will begin to feel the effects of tadalafil within 30-60 minutes of taking it and it will remain effective for up to 36 hours.

How do I take Tadalafil?

10mg and 20mg doses of Tadalafil should be taken 60 minutes before you wish to engage in any sexual activity to ensure the treatment is in full effect.

2.5mg and 5mg doses are to be taken daily. Without regular consumption the medication will be ineffective.

Tadalafil should not be taken in conjunction with any other erectile dysfunction medication. Before taking another treatment, you should wait 36 hours, until the medication is out of your system.

• Take one tablet between 30 - 60 minutes before sexual intercourse.
• The recommended dose of Tadalafil is 10 mg initially and can be increased to 20 mg if it is insufficient.
• Tadalafil should only be taken once every 24 hours. You should contact your doctor if you exceed the dose.
• It will only work if you are sexually stimulated. In order for Tadalafil to work, you must participate in foreplay and thoroughly enjoy it.
• Avoid alcohol when taking Tadalafil to make it more effective.
• Alcohol also reduces blood pressure which results in difficulty in getting an erection and dizziness.
• Contact your doctor if you take more than the recommended dose because you may suffer from the side effects outlined in this patient information leaflet.

Tadalafil can cause side effects. However, many people are not affected by them.

Side effects that have been recorded when Tadalafil has been taken are rare and uncommon.  Here is a list of the most commonly recorded side effects.

Common (seen in 1 to 10 in every 100 patients)

headache, back pain, muscle aches, pain in arms and legs, facial flushing, nasal congestion, indigestion and reflux.

 If you experience any of the following side effects stop using the medicine and seek medical help immediately:

- allergic reactions including rashes (frequency uncommon).

- chest pain

- prolonged and possibly painful erection after taking CIALIS (frequency rare). If you have such an erection, which lasts continuously for more than 4 hours you should contact a doctor immediately.

- sudden loss of vision (frequency rare).
