Bactroban 2% Nasal Ointment

Bactroban nasal ointment's active ingredient is Mupirocin, which is an antibacterial.  

Bactroban nasal ointment is used to treat or prevent infections in the nose due to certain strains of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This medicine works by killing bacteria or preventing their growth. It will treat the symptoms of Impetigo, skin infections, and MRSA.

Warnings and Precautions:

• Do not use BACTROBAN nasal ointment if you have an allergy to any medicine containing mupirocin or any of the other ingredients in this ointment
• Do not use BACTROBAN nasal ointment after the expiry date (EXP) printed on the pack.
• Should not be used to treat infections in or near the eyes.
• Do not mix BACTROBAN nasal ointment with any other preparation. As they may prevent BACTROBAN nasal ointment from working.

Tell your doctor if:

• You have any allergies to foods, dyes, preservatives or any other medicines.
• If you are using any other medicines, including medicines you buy without a prescription.
• If you are breastfeeding, pregnant or trying to become pregnant.

Ingredients:

BACTROBAN nasal ointment's main active ingredient is mupirocin.

Inactive ingredients are white soft paraffin and Softisan 649 (a mixture of natural vegetable fatty acids).

Always wash your hands before and after applying BACTROBAN nasal ointment.

• Squeeze a small amount (about the size of a matchstick head) onto the tip of your little finger
• apply to the inside surface at the front of each nostril.
• Gently press your nostrils together to help spread the ointment throughout your nose.
• A swab, such as a cotton bud may be used for application to infants or patients who are very ill.

BACTROBAN nasal ointment is usually applied two or three times a day.

Your doctor or pharmacist will tell you how many times to apply the ointment.

Treatment is usually 5 and 7 days. Do not use it for more than 10 days.

The most common side effects of Bactroban Nasal Ointment include:

• burning,
• stinging,
• itching, and
• pain

Bactroban Nasal Ointment may cause serious side effects which include:

• severe stomach pain,
• diarrhea that is watery or bloody,
• severe itching,
• rash,
• irritation of treated skin,
• unusual skin blistering or peeling, and
• signs of a new skin infection
