What is Loperamide Hydrochloride 2mg?

Loperamide Hydrochloride 2mg is a tablet used for diarrhoea. The active ingredient Loperamide is found in Imodium Capsules and products. 

What is Loperamide used for?

Loperamide is used as a treatment for diarrhoea. It can be used for acute diarrhoea in adults and children over 12 years old. It can also be used for episodes associated with irritable bowel syndrome in adults following an initial diagnosis by a doctor. 

How does Loperamide Work?

Loperamide works by slowing down food as it goes through your gut. Your body can then draw in more water from your intestines, so that your poos get firmer and you poo less often. See more on the NHS website.

2mg Loperamide Hydrochloride

Also contains:
Lactose monohydrate

How do I use Loperamide Hydrochloride 2mg? 

Directions:

Adults, the Elderly and children over 12 years of age:
Take two tablets at the start, followed, if required, by one tablet after each further loose bowel movement, up to a maximum of 6 tablets in 24 hours. Swallow the tablets whole with water.

Precautions: 

• Maximum of 6 tablets in 24 hours
• Do not take more medicine than the label tells you
• If symptoms persist for over 24 hours, consult your doctor.
• Not a substitute for rehydration therapy
• Store Below 25℃

If you have any severe side effects, stop use immediately and seek medical assistance as soon as possible. Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Rare serious reactions: may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people

• Allergic reactions, including unexplained wheezing, shortness of breath, passing out or swelling of the face and throat.
• Skin rashes, which may be severe and include blistering or peeling skin
• Loss of consciousness or reduced level of consciousness (passing out, feeling faint or less alert), uncoordinated movements.

If you experience any of the above symptoms after taking this medicine, stop using the medicine and go to the nearest hospital IMMEDIATELY.

Common side effects: may affect up to 1 in 10 people

• Itchiness or hives.
• Burning or prickling sensation of the tongue.
• Swollen stomach or stomachache.

Rare side effects: may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people

• Difficulties passing water,
• Severe constipation,
• Muscle stiffness,
• Miosis (narrowing of the pupils of the eyes).

If you experience any of the above, stop using this medicine and talk to a doctor as soon as possible.
