Pioglitazone Tablets: Things you need to know

Pioglitazone tablets come in three strengths: 15mg, 30mg and 45mg

What are Pioglitazone Tablets?

Pioglitazone is a treatment for type 2 diabetes used with proper diet and exercise to treat high blood sugar levels. It may be used in combination with other medicines for type 2 diabetes.

How does Pioglitazone work as a treatment for Type 2 Diabetes?

Pioglitazone works by making cells more sensitive to insulin, which is used to regulate the level of glucose in the body. Reducing insulin resistance makes it easier for sugar (glucose) in the blood to get into the cells.

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes mellitus refers to a group of diseases that affect how your body uses blood sugar (glucose).

The cause of diabetes varies by type. However, no matter what type of diabetes you have, it can lead to excess sugar in your blood and to much sugar in your blood can lead to serious health problems.

Chronic diabetes: type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes.

Potentially reversible diabetes: Prediabetes and gestational diabetes.

Gestational diabetes: occurs during pregnancy but may resolve after the baby is delivered.
