What are Gliclazide MR Tablets?
Gliclazide is a medicine that reduces blood sugar levels (antidiabetic medicine taken orally, belonging to the sulphonylurea group). Gliclazide is used in a certain form of diabetes (type 2 diabetes mellitus) in adults when diet, exercise and weight loss alone do not have an adequate effect on keeping blood sugar at the correct level.

How does Gliclazide work as a treatment for Type 2 Diabetes?
 

Gliclazide works by increasing the amount of insulin that your pancreas produces. This results in lower blood sugar levels and the reduction of diabetic symptoms.
 

What is Diabetes?
 

Diabetes mellitus refers to a group of diseases that affect how your body uses blood sugar (glucose). 

The cause of diabetes varies by type. However, no matter what type of diabetes you have, it can lead to excess sugar in your blood and to much sugar in your blood can lead to serious health problems.

Chronic diabetes: type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes.

Potentially reversible diabetes: Prediabetes and gestational diabetes.

Gestational diabetes: occurs during pregnancy but may resolve after the baby is delivered.
 

Emergency supplies of Gliclazide:

Gliclazide is a prescription only medicine and an Emergency Supply can only be issued if you are currently being prescribed this medication by your GP for Diabetes.  You will need to fill out a questionnaire, which is then reviewed to make sure Gliclazide is a suitable treatment for you. You will also need to upload proof that you have used this item before. If your order is approved, your Gliclazide can be sent directly to you.

Warnings and Precautions

Always take this medication exactly as directed by your GP.

Keep out of sight and Reach of children.

If you are taking any new medications even over the counter medicines whilst taking Gliclazide you should make your GP aware to prevent interactions.

How do I take Gliclazide MR Tablets?

Gliclazide 30mg MR tablets must be used exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are unsure contact your GP.

What are the side effects of Gliclazide MR Tablets?

• Dizziness

• Nausea or vomiting

• Diarrhoea

• Confusion

• Weakness

• Sweating

• Changes in vision

• Decreased heartbeat

• Stomach pain

• Constipation

• Skin rash

• Low blood sugar levels
