Spiriva Respimat

Spirvia respimat is a long-acting  bronchodilator that helps to open the airways and makes it easier to breathe.

Daily use of Spirvia respimat may prevent any sudden or short term worsening of your COPD which may last for several days.

Spirvia respimat works by relaxing the small muscles and widening the airways opening them for air to flow in and out easier.

1. Remove the clear base

• Keep the cap closed
• Press the safety catch while firmly pulling off the clear base with your other hand. Be careful not to touch the piercing element
• Write the “discard by” date on the label (3 months from the date the cartridge is inserted)

1. Insert the cartridge

• Insert the narrow end of the cartridge into the inhaler
• Place the inhaler on a firm surface and push down firmly until it clicks into place

1. Replace the clear base

• Put the clear base back into place until it clicks
• Do not remove the clear base or the cartridge after it has been put together

1. Turn

• Keep the cap closed
• Turn the clear base in the direction of the arrows on the label until it clicks (half a turn)

1. Open

• Open the cap until it snaps fully open

1. Press

• Point the inhaler toward the ground
• Press the dose-release button
• Close the cap
• If you do not see a mist, repeat steps 4 to 6 until a mist is seen
• After a mist is seen, repeat steps 4 to 6 three more times
• After complete preparation of your inhaler, it will be ready to deliver the number of puffs on the label

If your breathing worsens after using this inhaler (bronchospasm) stop using it and use your rescue inhaler, seeking medical attention immediately.

Like all medications Spiriva Respimat can cause some unwanted side effects. 

Common side effects of Spiriva Respimat include:

• sore throat,
• cough
• dry mouth
• sinus infection (sinusitis)
• constipation
• difficulty urinating
• urinary retention
• urinary tract infection (UTI)

To prevent dry mouth, hoarseness, and oral yeast infections from developing, gargle, rinse your mouth with water and spit out after each use. Do not swallow the rinse water.
