What are Buscopan IBS tablets?

Buscopan IBS tablets target the source of IBS pain for relief of gastro-intestinal tract spasm associated with medically confirmed Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). 

They help relief abdominal cramps which cause pain and discomfort in IBS. With antispasmodic effect, Buscopan IBS tablets relax the cramping muscle of your bowel.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome, also known as IBS, is a common condition which affects your digestive system. When you have IBS, you may experience flare-ups when you eat certain foods and drinks, stress, to much caffeine and hormonal factors causing symptoms such as stomach cramps, bloating, constipation, and diarrhoea.

Warnings and Precautions

• Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
• Read the package leaflet before use.
• Do not use if expiration date printed on the carton has passed.

Do not use if:

• You have glaucoma (an eye condition)
• You have megacolon (a very enlarged colon)
• You have myasthenia gravis (a very rare muscle weakness)
• You are allergic to hyoscine butylbromide or the other ingredients.
• You are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you’re suffering from IBS at this time, you should ask your GP or pharmacist 

Speak to your GP or pharmacist before use if:

• If you’re taking any other medication, including those you obtained without a prescription.

Ingredients

Active ingredient: hyoscine butylbromide.

Other ingredients are: calcium hydrogen phosphate, maize starch, soluble starch, colloidal silica, tartaric acid, stearic acid, sucrose, talc, acacia, titanium dioxide, macrogol 6000, carnauba wax, white beeswax and povidone.

How do I use Buscopan IBS tablets?

Dosage:

For Adults and Children 12 years or over ONLY:

Take ONE tablet THREE times daily increased if necessary up to TWO tablets FOUR times daily for maximum relief.
 

Children under the age of 12 years:

Not recommended.

What are the side effects of Buscopan IBS tablets?

Possible side effects:

• Skin reactions, e.g. urticaria, pruritis
• Increased heart rate (tachycardia)
• Problems emptying the bladder
• Severe allergic reaction showing symptoms such as difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness, swelling of the face, mouth, throat, etc., itchy rash which spreads all over the body
• Difficult or laboured breathing (dyspnoea)
• Allergic reaction, e.g. skin rash, patchy red skin
• Painful red eye with loss of vision (glaucoma)

Other side effects include:

• Dry mouth
• Outbreaks of sweat and dryness on your skin (dyshidrosis)
• Skin reactions
