All of the above-mentioned brands are clinically equivalent. Cerazette was the first patented brand however they all work equally as well.
Mini-pills prevent pregnancy by:
The above two effects make Cerazette and the other desogestrel containing mini-pill’s 99% effective at preventing pregnancy if taken properly.
How is desogestrel taken?
ONE Tablet to be taken Daily at the same time of day.
These pills come with numbered blisters to help you remember which day of your cycle you are on. If the blister is not started on the first day of your menstrual cycle, use condoms or another barrier method of contraception for seven days to avoid getting pregnant.
It is important to take this type of pill at the same time everyday. If a pill is missed then you have 12 hours to take the dose. Any time after this point will be like starting the course again and again a barrier method of contraception will be required for 7 days to avoid pregnancy.
If you are less than 12 hours late - take the dose as soon as you remember. Continue the pack as normal. The protection level remains the same as if you would have taken it on time.
If you are more than 12 hours late - take the late dose as soon as you remember, and finish the pack as normal. You will not be protected to the same level for 7 days, so use additional barrier contraception (condoms) or abstain from sexual intercourse.
If you have had sex and have missed a pill by more than 12 hours then you should take emergency contraception as soon as possible as there is a chance you will not be protected. This can also be ordered for future-use from Simply Meds Online.
For a full list of side effects please read the Patient Information Leaflet.
Whilst taking this type of pill you should also make sure to regularly inspect your breasts, paying attention to any abnormalities. If you do discover any, seek immediate medical attention immediately as this will require investigation.
You should also be aware of the symptoms of blood clots (thrombosis). These include pain or cramping in the legs, red and dark skin around the painful region, swollen or painful veins, trouble breathing. If you experience any of these symptoms you should treat them as a medical emergency and contact your GP immediately.
