What are Panadol 500mg Liquid Paracetamol Capsules?

For use in adults, adolescents and children from the age of 10 years for mild to moderate pain. 

Panadol Liquid Paracetamol Capsules belong to a group of medications called analgesics, otherwise referred to as pain killers. They are used to treat mild to moderate pain and/or fever. 

Panadol 500mg Liquid Capsules can be used for treating:

• migraine and tension headaches,
• toothache,
• rheumatic pain,
• back pain,
• muscle pain,
• period pain.
• sore throat,
• fever,
• aches and pains of colds and flu
• pain due to mild arthritis. 

Ingredients

Active ingredients: each Panadol 500mg capsule contains paracetamol (500mg).

Each capsule also contains sorbitol liquid (108mg) and propylene glycol (20mg).

Adults and over 16 years of age

Take 1-2 capsules at a time.

If necessary, repeat every 4-6 hours, with a maximum of 8 capsules every 24 hours.

Children aged 10-15 years of age

Give 1 capsule at a time. If necessary, repeat every 4-6 hours, with a maximum of 4 capsules every 24 hours.

The dose of paracetamol for children should be based on age. A suitable dosage form must be used.

Do not give for more than 3 days at a time without consulting a doctor.

Do Not Take Panadol 500 mg Capsules If:

• You have ever had an allergic reaction to paracetamol or any of the other ingredients in this medicine (see Section 6 of the patient information leaflet).
• You are already taking other medicines that contain paracetamol, including those for treating pain, fever, cold and flu symptoms, or to aid sleep.

Consult Your Doctor Before Taking This Medicine If:

• You suffer from mild arthritis and need to take painkillers every day.
• You have liver or kidney problems.
• You are underweight or malnourished.
• You regularly drink alcohol.
• You have severe illnesses, including:
  • Severe renal impairment
  • Sepsis (a serious blood infection that can lead to organ damage)
  • Chronic alcoholism
  • Malnutrition
• You are taking flucloxacillin (an antibiotic).

Warning: Risk of Metabolic Acidosis

A rare but serious condition called metabolic acidosis (an imbalance in blood and fluid chemistry) has been reported in patients taking paracetamol regularly, especially:

• In combination with flucloxacillin
• When suffering from malnutrition, chronic alcoholism, or severe illnesses

Symptoms of metabolic acidosis may include:

• Serious breathing difficulties (deep, rapid breathing)
• Drowsiness
• Nausea (feeling sick)
• Vomiting

If you experience these symptoms, seek medical attention immediately.
