What are Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) Tablets?
 

Xarelto Tablets contains the active ingredient Rivaroxaban  belongs to a group of medicines called antithrombotic agents. These are used to treat and prevent deep venous thrombosis and also can be used to prevent stroke and blood clots in patients with certain heart rhythm problems (eg, nonvalvular atrial fibrillation).

How does Rivaroxaban work as a treatment for Cardiovascular diseases?

Rivaroxaban works by decreasing the clotting ability of the blood and helps prevent harmful clots from forming in the blood vessels.

What are Cardiovascular Diseases?

Cardiovascular disease includes numerous problems that effect the heart and blood vessels. A person with cardiovascular disease may be symptomatic or be asymptomatic.

• Arrhythmia

• Valve disease

• Coronary artery disease

• Heart failure

• Peripheral artery disease

• Aortic disease

• Congenital heart disease

• Pericardial disease

• Cerebrovascular disease.

• Deep vein thrombosis

Problems included in cardiovascular diseases are:

• Abnormal heart rhythms.

• Heart valve disease.

• Narrowing of the blood vessels in your heart, other organs or throughout your body with plaque.

• Heart squeezing (tightening) and relaxation difficulties.

• Heart and blood vessel problems from birth.

• Problems with your heart’s outer lining.

Emergency supplys of Xarelto:

Xarelto is a prescription only medicine and an Emergency Supply can only be issued if you are currently being prescribed this medication by your GP for Cardiovascular diseases.  You will need to fill out a questionnaire, which is then reviewed to make sure Xarelto is a suitable treatment for you. You will also need to upload proof that you have used this item before. If your order is approved, your Xarelto can be sent directly to you.

Warnings and Precautions

Always take this medication exactly as directed by your GP.

Keep out of sight and Reach of children.

If you are taking any new medications even over the counter medicines whilst taking Rivaroxaban you should make your GP aware to prevent interactions.

How do I take Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) Tablets?

Rivaroxaban must be used exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are unsure contact your GP.

Recommended starting dose is usually:

20mg once a day

Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed.

• You can take this medicine before or after meals.

• It should be taken at the same time each day, with a glass of water.

What are the side effects of Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) Tablets?

More common side effects:

• Back pain

• bleeding gums

• bloody stools

• bowel or bladder dysfunction

• burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings

• coughing up blood

• difficulty with breathing or swallowing

• dizziness

• headache

• increased menstrual flow or vaginal bleeding

• leg weakness

• nosebleeds

• numbness

• paralysis

• prolonged bleeding from cuts

• red or black, tarry stools

• red or dark brown urine

• vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds

Less common side effects:

• Fainting

• pain in the arms or legs

• wound secretion

Rare side effects:

• Burning feeling while urinating

• difficult or painful urination
