What is Acnecide 5% Gel?

Acnecide is a gel that helps to treat acne by attacking the bacteria that cause the condition, helping to keep skin clear.  It contains the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide which effectively kills up to 95% of bacteria causing spots. This stops the bacteria causing Propionibacterium acne. Another great addition to this gel is it contains microsphere technology which helps absorb excess oil while releasing glycerine to hydrate the skin.

Warnings and Precautions

• Acnecide gel and wash should not be used together as per recommendations from the makers.
• Try to avoid strong sunlight and other sources of UV light, such as sunbeds while using this gel.
• Avoid contact with hair, clothing, or fabrics, as this gel can bleach or stain.
• Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, angles of the nose, and mucous membranes (e.g. inside of the mouth, inside the nose). 
• Keep out of sight and reach of children.
• For external use only.
• Discontinue use if irritation or rash occurs. 

Do not use if:

• You are allergic to any of the ingredients this product contains or if you have had a previous reaction to this gel.
• You have broken or damaged skin.
• You experience blistering or swelling of the skin while using this product.

Speak to your GP or our Pharmacist before use if:

• You are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
• You suffer from any allergies.

Ingredients

Active ingredients: benzoyl peroxide 5% w/w.

Other ingredients: docusate sodium, disodium edetate, poloxamer 182, carbomer 940, propylene glycol, acrylates copolymer, glycerol, colloidal anhydrous silica, purified water, and sodium hydroxide.

How do I apply Acnecide 5% Gel?

Directions:

Before use: 

1. Wash the affected area with a mild cleanser and clean water
2. Gently pat the skin dry 

Application:

Apply a thin layer of gel to all of the affected areas once or twice a day, as required.

For sensitive skin:

Apply once a day, at bedtime.

After Application:

1. Wash hands thoroughly.
2. If your skin begins to dry or peel reduce the number of applications (e.g. from once a day to once every two days) until your skin has had time to adjust to this product.
3. Try to avoid strong sunlight while using this gel.
4. See your GP or pharmacist after a month of use so they can check that your condition is improving.

What are the side effects of Acnecide 5% Gel?

Consult your GP or our pharmacist immediately if you experience any of the following side effects: 

• Extremely irritated skin
• Severe redness, rash, or itching
• Peeling of the skin
• Swelling on your face, eyelids, mouth, etc.

Other side effects which may be experienced include:

• Dry skin
• Tingling sensation
• Sore or stinging of the skin
• Skin irritation (contact dermatitis)

If you have any severe side effects stop use immediately and seek medical assistance as soon as possible.
