What are Calpol Sachets?

Calpol Infant Sachets contain a strawberry-flavoured sugar-free oral suspension and are used for the relief of fever and/or pain relief. With the active ingredient of Paracetamol. Paracetamol is a very popular and effective medicine and is great for children also suffering from cold and flu.

Warnings and Precautions

• Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
• Read the package leaflet before use.
• Do not use it if the expiration date printed on the carton has passed.
• For oral use ONLY.

DO NOT USE OR GIVE TO A CHILD IF:

• They are under 2 months
• They are allergic to paracetamol
• They have phenylketonuria (a hereditary disease discovered at birth)
• Have serious kidney or liver problems
• Have an intolerance to fructose or have been diagnosed with an intolerance to some sugars

*DO NOT TAKE ANY OTHER PARACETAMOL PRODUCTS WHILST TAKING CALPOL*

Speak to the GP or Pharmacist before use if:

• Your child is taking any other medication, including ones which don’t require a prescription

Especially if taking:

• Metoclopramide or domperidone, which is used to treat nausea or vomiting
• Colestyramine, which is used to treat high cholesterol
• Anticoagulants, or blood thinners, e.g. warfarin
• Anticonvulsants, which are used to treat epilepsy

Additional Important Information for ADULTS if you take Calpol Sachets :

• The oral contraceptive pill can make this product less effective at reducing pain or fever.
• If you drink large amounts of alcohol, you should speak to your GP or our pharmacist before taking this product, as you are more likely to experience side effects.
• If you are pregnant or breastfeedin,g you should speak to your GP or our pharmacist before use.

Ingredients

The active ingredient is: Paracetamol 120 mg per 5 ml

Other ingredients are Maltitol liquid, glycerol, polysorbate 80, sorbitol solution (E420), methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), ethyl parahydroxybenzoate (E214), microcrystalline cellulose and carmellose sodium, xanthan gum and purified water.

The flavouring is strawberry (containing propylene glycol (E1520) and benzyl alcohol) and colouring is carmoisine (E122).

How do I take/give Calpol Sachets?

Massage the contents of the sachet before opening it.

Do not overfill the spoon. Always use the spoon supplied with the pack.

Dosage:

Age: 3-6 months:

ONE 2.5ml Spoonful up to 4 times a day 

Age: 6-24 months:

ONE 5ml spoonful up to 4 times a day 

Age: 2-4 years:

ONE 5ml spoonful and ONE 2.5ml spoonful (7.5ml) up to 4 times a day

Age: 4-6 years:

TWO 5ml spoonfuls up to 4 times a day

• Do not give more than 4 doses in any 24-hour period.
• Do not give this medicine to your child for more than 3 days without speaking to your doctor or pharmacist.
• Leave at least 4 hours between doses.

Post-vaccination fever

Age 2-3 months: 

2.5ml from the time of vaccine (if necessary, after 4-6 hours, give a second 2.5ml dose).

Other causes of pain and fever, are if your baby weighs over 4 kg and was born after 37 weeks.

Age 2-3 months: 

2.5ml (If necessary, after 4-6 hours, give a second 2.5ml dose)

• Do not give to babies less than 2 months of age.
• Do not give more than 2 doses.
• If further doses are needed, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
• Never give more medicine than is shown in the table. Do not exceed the stated dose.

What are the side effects of Calpol Sachets?

Like all medications, Calpol Sachets can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. 

• Allergic reactions, e.g. swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, difficulty swallowing, unexplained wheezing, and shortness of breath which may be accompanied by skin rash or hives
• Becoming unusually tired, unexpected bruising or bleeding, getting more infections (e.g. colds) than usual
• Very rare cases of skin reactions, showing symptoms such as skin reddening, blisters, rash

If you experience these or any other side effects while using this product, stop use and seek medical assistance straight away.
