Aklief is part of a group of medications called retinoids, as it contains the active ingredient Trifarotene. It's used to treat non-inflammatory and inflammatory acne by promoting faster skin cell turnover, helping to unclog pores and reducing acne.
Aklief cream works using the active ingredient, Trifarotene, which is a chemical that aids the skin in replacing dead skin cells at a faster rate than usual, exfoliating the old cells. This helps to prevent acne from returning. It also decreases swelling and inflammation of the skin, helping to reduce redness.
Aklief cream helps to keep follicles clear and prevents buildup of dead skin cells, meaning less formation of whiteheads and blackheads.
Aklief cream is used to treat acne of the face, neck, chest, back and shoulders.
Yes, it is recommended to use a moisturiser as part of your daily skin routine.
Step 1 - Use a gentle and mild cleanser such as Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser to clear your face of dirt and grime first.
Step 2 - Once the skin is dry, apply a thin layer of Aklief Cream once daily in the evening. One pump for the face, two pumps for the chest, shoulders and back.
Step 3 - Use a gentle moisturiser such as Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion as often as needed to help minimise skin dryness and irritation.
Step 4 - Use a sunscreen that's SPF15 or higher and wear protective clothing. Always use sunscreen when using Aklief Cream.
Yes, common side effects include itching, application site irritation and sunburn. You can also experience scaling, dryness and stinging and burning. Using a moisturiser from the onset of treatment can help minimise these reactions. If irritation continues, discontinue use.
You can download a copy of how to apply, along with precautions and information from the Aklief website here.
Avoid contact with eyes, eyelids, lips and inside the nose or mouth. If the cream accidentally comes into contact with these areas, wash them with lukewarm water straight away.
You must always wash your hands straight after applying the cream.
If you need to use a moisturiser during the Aklief treatment, it can be applied before or after Aklief, ensuring time for the skin to dry between applications so the cream can soak in.
Your doctor will decide how long you should use Aklief Cream for. After three months of treatment, your doctor may want to check the progress of your acne.
