What is Canesten 500mg Pessary?

Canesten Pessary is an effective single dose pessary with an applicator, meaning it gets to the site of the infection and treats vaginal thrush quickly and effectively. A single dose is enough to eradicate the problem.

A vaginal thrush infection may cause any of the following symptoms:

• whitish, odourless vaginal discharge,
• persistent burning,
• itching,
• redness,
• swelling and soreness of the vagina.

Canesten pessary contains the active ingredient Clotrimazole 500mg and treats the internal symptoms of vaginal thrush. 

The other ingredients are lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, lactic acid, maize starch, crospovidone, calcium lactate pentahydrate, magnesium stearate, colloidal anhydrous silica and hypromellose.

How to Use Canesten 500mg Pessary

Wash hands before and after inserting the pessary.

Insert into the vagina preferably at night using the applicator provided.  Full instructions and available on the patient information leaflet. 

If symptoms persist for more than 7 days, consult your doctor. 

For patients aged between 16 and 60 years old.

Like all medicines, Canesten 500mg Pessary can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

As with all medicines, some people may be allergic to the pessary.

If you are allergic, a reaction will occur soon after you have used the medicine.

If you experience an allergic reaction or the redness, burning, pain, itching or swelling get worse, stop using this product and tell your doctor straight away or contact the Accident and Emergency Department of your nearest hospital.

Signs of an allergic reaction may include:

• Rash.
• Swallowing or breathing problems.
• Swelling of your lips, face, throat or tongue.
• Weakness, feeling dizzy or faint.
• Nausea.

After you use the pessary you might experience:

• Itching, rash, swelling, redness, discomfort, burning, irritation, vaginal peeling, discharge or bleeding.
• Pain (eg. abdominal pain, vulvovaginal pain).
• Nausea.
