Sevikar Tablets comes in three strengths: 20mg/5mg, 40mg/5mg and 40mg/10mg

What are Sevikar Tablets?

Sevikar contains Olmesartan which is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) and Amlodipine which belongs to a group of medicines known as calcium channel blockers. This medication may be used alone or together with other medicines to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).

How do the active ingredients Olmesartan and Amlodipine work as a treatment for High Blood Pressure?
 

Olmesartan works by relaxing blood vessels so that blood passes through them more easily. Relaxed vessels increase the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart which improve blood pressure and the hearts workload.

Amlodipine works by affecting the movement of calcium into the cells of the heart and blood vessels. It relaxes and widens the blood vessels and increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart which improve blood pressure and the hearts workload.

What is High Blood Pressure?

High blood pressure is added workload to the heart and arteries. If this added  pressure continues for a long period of time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. High blood pressure may also increase the risk of heart attacks. With controlled treatment of high blood pressure these problems may be less likely to occur.

Emergency supplys of Sevikar:

Sevikar is a prescription only medicine and an Emergency Supply can only be issued if you are currently being prescribed this medication by your GP for high blood pressure.  You will need to fill out a questionnaire, which is then reviewed to make sure Sevikar is a suitable treatment for you. You will also need to upload proof that you have used this item before. If your order is approved, your Sevikar can be sent directly to you.

Warnings and Precautions

Always take this medication exactly as directed by your GP.

Keep out of sight and Reach of children.

Avoid grapefruit juice.

If you are taking any new medications even over the counter medicines whilst taking Sevikar you should make your GP aware to prevent interactions.

Some patients experience spells of dizziness while taking Sevikar tablets. Make sure this does not apply to you before driving a car or working with machinery.

Active ingredients: Olmesartan and Amlodipine.

How do I take Sevikar Tablets?
 

Sevikar must be used exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are unsure contact your GP.
 

• You can take this medicine before or after meals.

• It should be taken at the same time each day, with a glass of water.

• Do not take Amlodipine with grapefruit juice.

What are the side effects of Sevikar Tablets?

Common side effects:

• Headache

• Dizziness 

• Swelling of the ankles, feet, legs, hands, or arms

• Tiredness

Uncommon side effects:

• Lack of energy

• Tingling or numbness of hands or feet

• Vertigo, Palpitations, Low blood pressure symptoms (such as feeling dizzy when standing up)

• Cough, feeling or being sick, indigestion, diarrhoea, dry mouth, constipation

• Pain in the upper abdomen, skin rash, muscle spasms, pain in the arms and legs, back pain

• Urgent need to pass urine, loss of libido, inability to achieve or sustain an erection, or weakness.

Rare side effects:

• Sensitive reaction to the drug, fainting, or flushing.
